Bought this to play with my son while he was deployed overseas. Ended up playing it a lot solo and even convinced the wife, who almost never games, to pick it up. I think the devs might be on to something here.

A case study / cautionary tale on how anti-consumer business practices and solid game development can be at odds with each other resulting in the spoiling of what would otherwise be another positive player experience in a developer's portfolio.

I may not be surprised, but I am disappointed.

Not my cup of tea, so to speak. Disfunctional ultrawide support, somewhat clunky control, and my personal pet peeve: co-op where only the host makes any game progress. I'm sure there might be a decent game in here, but I'm unlikely to see it anytime soon. Back into the backlog this one goes.

Well, I've completed the game. It's portal ... but prettier. It looks great, and runs great on my hardware. Scanning a lot of the other reviews, a lot of people don't know what they're actually looking at and I blame the marketing for most (not all) of this. Much of the reviews are "(insert rasterized game with a ray tracing effect or two here) runs great on my PC, but Portal RTX doesn't. It's unoptimized!"

It's not. It's a completely path traced piece of software running in real time and playable. It's many orders of magnitude more taxing than almost anything else people are currently playing, but the expectation seems to be it should run like something like Shadow of the Tomb Raider with ray traced shadows on. The marketing doesn't seem to have made it clear enough to people that this is fully path traced and exactly what that means for performance expectations. So we end up with the latest example of people trying to run tomorrow's graphics at ultra on yesterday's hardware and expecting a miracle. No Tom, you're not going to get a fully path traced game to run at 4K120 ultra on your 2060 with an i3 8100 at native. Use reasonable settings, there are a TON of performance options in the RTX remix menu.

I have one major con with the game. It's SUPER crash happy. Change a video option that isn't in the RTX remix menu? Crash. Play at a non 16:9 resolution? Plays fine during the majority of the game, then starts crashing in the later levels. Playing fullscreen? Expect crashes that you don't get in windowed mode ... and vice versa. If the game didn't crash in all of these situations, I wouldn't have anything bad to say. It's portal ... but prettier.

How is $3 this entertaining? No reason not to buy this.

11/23/2023: It's even more amazing now.

I saw this randomly in my discovery queue and it looked interesting. Not "I need to buy this now" interesting, but interesting. I then read the game info and saw it had a tag system, supers, alternate modes ... I bought it on a whim. Damn am I glad I did. I'm in my 40's and grew up on Saturday morning cartoons, Kung Fu movies, beat em up games.

Jitsu Squad hits all of these notes, but here's the thing; the gameplay and controls are GREAT. This isn't a quick nostalgia cash in, they clearly put a lot of love and effort into how this plays and pays off. The combat systems in this game get deeper and deeper as you unlock moves and it really feels like a blend of a tag fighter and a beat em up once you have everything.

There are some flaws I'd like to see addressed ... such as if you start a game in co-op but don't finish it with your teammate you can't continue solo, you have to start a new game. Also the game is short, my cousin and I have completed it twice in 3 hours, and doesn't have any alternate branching paths or anything.

I fully recommend this if you're into any of the things I've mentioned. I loved playing this, and will be replaying it more times with the other characters, experimenting with the secondary weapons, seeing what kind of crazy tag combos I can figure out, etc.

Gonna keep this short. I'm having a lot of fun with this game. It's not perfect, but the minute to minute racing is very fun. The nostalgia factor of some of the cars helps too, so I'm a little biased there as a guy in his 40's. It looks good, it runs well, it's fun, no hidden microtransactions.

Look, I buy a LOT of games and LOT of DLC. I rarely review things anymore (deleted a lot of older reviews), and it's even rarer for me to feel inclined to give something a thumbs down. Welcome to the rare thumbs down.

For starters, this is overpriced for what players get. Looking at it like a checklist makes it seem like it's a cool deal. In practice, not so much. The cars ... aren't great in function or design for being paid DLC. And the tracks ... my word, these are some of the worst track designs in the game with multiple blind jumps, darker areas with moderately visible cones and few other cues to guide the player to which direction is correct, areas with odd geometry that can stop a player dead with no visual reason as to why and a few areas where players can actively get suddenly stuck and forced to respawn (or just quit and restart in most cases).

Annnnnd, the time trials. Look, I'm all for challenging content. I've been playing games for over 3 decades of my life now, and grew up playing games far harder than MOST of what releases these days. The time trials feel as if they either weren't properly play tested, or they are designed exclusively for an extremely niche group of players. Time trials in other racing games tend to have standard times that are doable with moderate skill & almost any vehicle allowed, and then harder times that require better upgrades/vehicles and intricate track knowledge. The default times in some of these trials absolutely require the fastest cars, knowledge of all the best shortcuts AND a perfect run ... despite some of them having traps that inject an element of randomness out of the player's control. If this is meant for only the best of the best, it should at least be indicated. But it's not, and it's going to frustrate a lot players coming in who just want to race in the Batcave but haven't invested dozens of hours into the game yet, don't have the best reflexes, and/or haven't been lucky enough with the RNG to land some of the faster cars with better handling. Looking at the discussion board, it looks like this is already happening.

This pack needs some tuning. Right now, it's just not something for every one playing Hot Wheels.

The game might feel a little unfinished, but I sure don't.

Wasn't expecting to finish this fast. And the game didn't take that long to beat either.
