I bought NMS when it first came out and was disappointed in the features that were talked about and/or promised but did not exist in the game. I still gave it a shot and played about 40 hours on the PS4 before giving it up due to the repetitive nature of the game.

I gave it another whirl on PS4 about a month and a half or so before NEXT was announced and found the new base building, exo vehicles, story, and changes to the game made it more enjoyable. I bought it on PC and the graphics are SO much better (isn't that to be expected), but I still felt a little bit of repetition after a while and decided to stop playing until the new expansion launched.

Now that NEXT has dropped, it feels more like the game we were promised. Crafting has changed quite a bit, but I have fun exploring, trying to figure out the new crafting system without googling too much, and I want to start the game over to see how/if the story has changed.

Things are looking up for No Man's Sky. I have to give credit to Hello Games for fighting through the barrage of bad reviews and displeased players for the past two years and releasing a complete overhaul of the game for free. Other companies call would have called it DLC and charged $20-$30 for it.

Is the game perfect or great? Nah, but it's taken a couple of giant steps and is firmly in the "good and enjoyable" category for me. I look forward to seeing the game continue to improve and become something that friends can hop on, build together, and leisurely fly around the galaxy. Now, where's my S-class experiemental plane at?
