It's really hard to describe the game. It starts so innocent like a diablo 2 clone but that stops quickly. I'm a gamer since the 90s and i never experienced something quite like it. The depth and complexity of this game are unmatched, the mechanics the game allows are downright crazy to the point you think you're breaking the game - but you're not! It's all part of it! Millions and billions of damage? Sure, why not - you'll always remember the day you were proud you hit 100 damage per hit - and the fascinating aspect is that even veteran players with godly characters find content in this game they're afraid of, but not because the game would punish you like an EA title would - no, just because the endgame content is remarkably hard and can almost be scaled up to endless difficulty.

It's a lot to learn and understand, but once you do, this game is, and as an egoshooter and racer enthusiast with some high level star craft experience, i got to say: downright the best multiplayer game in existence.

there's just nothing quite like it - and you will probably never experience a game with that much freedom and things to think about. And if you got a hang for philosophy, this game will be a treat. Lots of very subtle very philosophical little hints here and there, the game communicates just beautifully with the player.

Fun, simple, enough rabbit holes deep enough to keep you hooked. Great development speed too and quality updates! For being "just" a supermarket sim it's really great! Nice sidegame when skill based stuff with the boys is just too much after a long day of work.

Update: The patches for this game are always awesome. I'm very critical but this game gets the right patches at the right time, and it's far from being hardcore commercial. no paywalls - i love it. The only thing i'm missing is the ability to delete or sell bought equipment like freezers or shelves, but i am 100% sure this will come soon.

Thanks for developing a game the right way, honestly.

Update 2: Dude keeps delivering quality updates. Bigger players should take notice as this is how it's done :)

No matter which settings or FPS i run the game at, it's always super laggy - even with 140 FPS.
VSYNC does not work at all and i experienced hardcore screen tearing which felt like the two parts of the teared screen ran at different speeds - oof.
Seriously, the worst screen tearing ever.

The engine looks decent but in order to try to make it playable i ended up lowering the settings so much that it looked like a game from 2004.
The physics are interesting but a noticeable input lag kind of ruins the experience.

I tried the game at a friends computer which is actually weaker than mine, and it ran fine there. As everything on my end is up to date and was checked while troubleshooting the game, it remains a mystery.

The game runs fine at 100+ FPS, but not every frame the GPU puts out is actually a newly rendered frame, instead the game shows you like 15 rendered FPS at an 140 FPS output - which must be a significant bug in the rendering part of the engine. Now if this was Codemasters on their own, i don't think a game in this state would have been thrown on the market, and even if, a patch would have been released by now, that fixes the whole issue. That said, on the other hand I realized: EA is in charge - and a fix on a core tech bug is.. say, sadly not terribly likely to happen anytime soon.

8700K, 3080TI, 32G RAM -> No chance.

For reference, Star Citizen runs fundamentally better than this. Every game does, it's 100% not my computers fault as everything i throw at this machine runs flawlessly.

I really like Codemasters games but this is sad and disappointing.

This game does not teach you how to drive, instead it teaches you what an outdated "physics" engine expects you to do. Your Vehicle always behaves like it's on rails, and instead of you making the car and thus the tires interact with the tarmac, your inputs blatantly manipulate the direction of the rails your car will follow.

There is rarely something inbetween grip and no grip. No gliding, no rotation, no drifting. They tried to poorly implement this here and there but there is no actual physics simulation going on, there is no smooth transition as you would expect from a car, it feels very scripted alltogether. The new tire model doesnt change a thing about this.

The force feedback is hideous and generic. You can also just take a spring loaded wheel as there is 0 communication about what the car or rather the tires are currently doing.

it's a pure "sim racing" game - it doesnt have much in common with reality.
Which is sad as the potential is definitely there. If it only had a proper physics simulation..

This cringefest is like Ace Combat from wish your mom got at home waiting just for you to shut up lol.
It's like this game was made to explain what the word generic means.
Always the same setting, always the same targets, always the same mission structures, always the same everything:
either you kill a bunch of generic radio antennas - always the same
or you kill a bunch of refinerys and fuel storage - always the same
or you kill a bunch of ships - always the same, and hilariously they travel through the seas with 400 knots !
or you kill a bunch of tanks and artillery - always the same

It's not even hard, you gotta kill like 1082 enemys every mission, for this you get like 200 missiles and a bunch of shots on your machine guns.

Every mission is so generic, you kill enemys, enemys respawn, you kill those, enemys respawn, mission accomplished.

The 99,9% edgelord cringe radio chatter that tries hard to be ace combat but lacks any charisma whatsoever does not help with this generic, monotone BS.

And tbh the mission payment even when you kill, no ♥♥♥♥, like 90 enemys per mission, is ridiculous. you simply dont get enough money to get better airplanes without selling ♥♥♥♥ you previously bought with a huge loss.

Its glitchy too and the graphics.. i mean they are OK, kinda like ace combat 4 but also a bit buggy here and there, sometimes it's impossible to distinguish the skies from the ground which shouldnt be as extreme.

Would recommend if F2P but definitely not for the price Steam asks for this.

And no, if you have a serios Ace Combat craving, this will not satisfy it.

Besides all of that, the original ideas of this game are.. ridiculous. Just ridiculous. The story, the fantasy planes, the setting it's trying hard to be ace combat but it feels like 2 dudes rushed this together while being high as a kite lol.

UPDATE SEPT 2024

DON'T. BUY. THIS. GAME.

REIZA BROKE THE PHYSICS IN THE LATEST PATCH AND WITH IT THE ONLY POSITIVE ASPECT IN THE GAME - and reiza actually thinks they improved the game by making you spin instead letting the engine simulate the glide zone betweern grip and drift. it's gone.

how can anyone be so blind and listen to people that are used to other ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sims. incredible.

_____

Some cars physics are top notch, there is nothing out right now in any game that can beat it.
But that's unfortunately the only really positive aspect of the game.
Some cars behave so weirdly and so unnaturally that you're really wondering if this is all running on the same engine.

It still carries over bugs that were already present in project cars 1.
Multiplayer is broken.
The UI is in some parts not only badly designed but also buggy.
The development speed is hideous and reiza seems to be another studio that prefers pushing content rather than pushing quality of life updates - meaning, a lot of bugs are in the game and none of them get fixed, not even the really obvious ones, while new pay to play DLC is getting pushed and pushed.

Every aspect of the multiplayer is way sub standard except for the actual racing - if it comes to that at all.

This is not good, and reiza should look around what happened to other games which were developed like this. they all slowly died, and looking at the player numbers of automobilista 2, if this game should be more than a cash cow, a drastic change of priorisation is in my opinion with 20+ years of experience in gaming, crucial.

100% recommendation if the base game was free to play until all base functions work properly. Paying for it? Wouldnt do it again.

Besides, the content that is pushed into the game, isnt that great either. Sure you get some nice cars occasionally but that doesnt change the fact that the base game comes with a mostly hideous car selection and for most people enjoyable, but irrelevant tracks.

This game is good at GT1, most F1 classes, and some GT3 cars drive decently aswell.

The prototype classes are good too, but there's already quite a gap - feeling wise - to the F1 cars, where this game really REALLY shines.
I have driven quite a lot formula cars in quite a few games - forget about all of them, Automobilista 2 is king here, hands down.

If you don't like GT3 or anything faster is for example too fast for you, you're screwed.
If you're looking to get a grip in this game or learn racing, good luck as the slower cars behave like nothing close to reality.

The skill to be able to handle fast cars is required in Automobilista 2.

The graphics are okay, the anti aliasing could work better in the distance. The game always gets you nice framerates even on higher settings, if your PC can run Project Cars 1, it can run Automobilista 2.

The force feedback in this game is sadly not nearly as good as in Project Cars 1. It has the same flaws as Project Cars 2 - no FFB at all near the center, yet the wheel will begin to flatter aggressively and apruptly when going fast in a straight line - odd!
My advise: They should take the FFB of PCars 1, take it over 1:1 and go from there to improve on the few bugs and glitches it has. It would make _the_ ultimate driving experience as the FFB of PCars is extremely well done plus the physics of the "good" cars in Automobilista 2 is far superior.

The ancestory to PCars is remarkable, yet everything looks just a little different on the track. The engine still creates breathtaking sunsets (which by the way most of the time do not work in MP - duh) BUT - and here is another big minus on the list: the sky always, ALWAYS has a static net-like overlay which of course helps a lot to make the sky sharper, but it screws with your eyes, a LOT. You might not notice it at first but you will feel it in your eyes especially in long races. Why, just why.

The Multiplayer is absolutely screwed and has so many weird features that you're really wondering if the devs of this game play it themselves at all.

Lobbies crashing, Races not starting, opponents dissapearing despite them still being on the track and racing, weird presets from any lobby you entered overwriting every parameter *you* have previously set for a lobby *you* created, turning multiplayer into some kind of setup nightmare.

Talking about setups, those dont fully work in online (your car always shows the same arbitiary amount of fuel no matter what you do) - and weird tire temperature beaviour not affected by tire pressure just to name a few oddities.

The menus for tuning could be improved.

It's superior to that of PCars (if you know, you know!), but at the same time buggy and bloaty.
It's a detail but the fact that apparently the angle of your steering wheel can change values QUICKLY, and hovering the cursor over an option is enough to change its value, means, if you're just building a setup, and for example touch the wheel just a tad by accident (which has 0 resistance in menus), and *move* the mouse over a bunch of clumped up menu items, *all* of them will change super fast for as long as the cursor hovers over that option which is unavoidable as you automatically hover over other things in a freaking list. And with fast i mean 1/10 second is enough to max out any option! .. Again, why? how? who could even.. what in the holy how the what the FFFFFFFRTRTTTTTHJGING JESUS LORD ALLMIGHTY WHAT????

Why man? Please, just WHY. Who comes up with something like this?

And then there are moments, where you want to change something in your setup but YOU CAN'T because the freaking menu *shows* the mouseover but does *not* recognise clicks or other inputs.

And this is in the game like this since day 1 . . . ! ! !

Mind. Blown.

Jesus, build a freaking slider that gives you the option to jump whole numbers when the cursor being above it, when dragging the cursor >40 pixels above or below it make it change in 0.1 steps, and finally in 0.01 steps when dragging the cursor even further up or down. This could be wheel compatible when including gas and breaks.

Oh, and there are, no matter what speed of time progression you chose, occasionally clouds that move through the sky with like mach 4, which is minimally distracting. Hooray timetrials - if you're into setting laptimes, you'll love those. For sure.

UPDATE 15.10.2023
As of now, the leaderboards of this game are down since months - no lap records are shown or saved.

Also the new tire tread updates made the game yet again even worse. Actually all the updated cars now slide on all 4 wheels all the time, there is no sense on grip whatsoever and the FFB tells you even less about what's happening than before - it actually feels like the game just applies some arbitiary amount of force as soon as you start steering - and holds it there, irrelevant if your speed changes, if you slide or not, if you increase or decrease the steering angle - like in racing games 15 years ago.

Hilarious: Updated cars now first understeer and then understeer without any change in FFB feel. As soon as you oversteer and correct it, the game always behaves like you're overcorrecting. There is no state between understeering or oversteering. Grip? no. rotation? meh, kinda, but no. It was better before the updates!

Also, the updated cars now spin out at low speed corners without any actual reason.
Wanna see what i mean? Take the 2.3 Benz Evo to Hockenheimring GP and watch it having seizures in all the slow corners, especially the spitzkehre and entry combination to parabolika.

I now officially predict the death of Automobilista 2 as the game core is constantly deteriorating since years with every update, Reiza is not listening to feedback of any kind at all, and not only do they seemingly not care about improving the basic game features, they seemingly don't even care about keeping features that worked before in working fashion.

..and it started out so good and so promising.

Worst. Copilot. Ever.

This ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is just infuriatingly inconsistent with his calls, most of his announcements are just wrong and vary from stage to stage, sometimes you can go flat out through corners announced as 5 or 6, sometimes they are baaaaaarely doable in 3rd gear and are more 2nd gear corners, too many irrelevant calls "slow unseen right at tree two around bale" and lack of important information, for example to keep to the inside when a cliff is on the outside. Weird timing aswell, sometimes he announces corners literally 10 seconds before you approach them, sometimes, especially in combinations, he announces the first corner, so you think great, left 4 no problem, and he is just silent while you approach it, but as soon as you cross the apex you see a left 2 following up instantly, which he THEN announces when you're practically entering the corner already.

even the original dirt was 10 times better with this, you simply cannot rely on the copilot in this game period. and that is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad for a rally game, i would have beaten the crap out of this douche if he would do that in real life.

Addon: This game is pure ♥♥♥♥. infuriating

Force Feedback is HIDEOUS, feel for speed NON EXISTING and the first thing you get presented ingame is freaking advertising for DLC. what a joke.

update: i got this game now gifted (thanks mate!)
well. it still sucks.

i screwed around 2 hours with my wheel driver and the game, the force feedback is completely pointless. i wonder if anyone developing this game, especially the people resposible for the FFB ever sat in a car in real life. this game is pure frustration and it is FREAKING TERRIBLE.
graphics = dated, FFB = the worst, realism = none, feel for speed = okay ish in hood cam, non existing in cockpit.

IT IS THE WORST
