Is worth spending time? Yes, not bad story.
Is friendly for new players? It depends if you had interaction with other Atelier games but as first title is a bit confusing at start but later it's playable.
Does look/sound good? Yes.
Is updated frequently? Yes but all updates you can "predict" from Japanese version so no surprises and you can "strategize" your waifu/husbando preferences.
