If this collection was a flat $10 fee, I'd consider writing a positive review.
These are two of the best LEGO games to date and are coupled with until-now unreleased extras on PC, namely achievements for both games and several characters and spells previously released as DLC for Years 5-7.
However the price I paid wasn't $10, it was $20, and that's WITH the loyalty discount for owning both of the original games on steam. My deepest condolences to anybody purchasing it for the full asking price of $40.
And what may the reason for such a price be? Well the game markets itself as a remaster, so let's take a look at just what exactly has been "remastered" compared to the originals:
1. The UI for both games has been changed. Note "changed", not
"improved", as the differences are not only minimal but also make this collection stand out compared to any other lego game, for example HUD margins have been removed, and you can no longer view the active character's name on the pause screen. At first I thought they did this to make the interface more uniform across both games, but no the changes aren't even consistent between the two so they both look different from their original releases AND each other for no good reason other than I guess somebody responsible for this port preferred it that way.
2. Some, maybe all, ambient effects have been reworked. I say "maybe" because the changes are so slight there's simply no way of telling at a glance without looking at a screenshot of the original game to compare it to.
3. Most of the technical issues infamously plaguing the original PC releases have been fixed. That mostly applies to Years 1-4 as that game had so many game breaking bugs that could potentially ruin your save that I could list all day. However that's hardly the whole story as this collection replaces most of those patched bugs, with NEW ONES. Weird game speed anomalies during the games' chase segments. Audio Crackling in 5-7. Collectibles not saving as collected and permanently disappearing from your game. Not only that, but the game is also now locked at 16:9@60FPS. This is something that hasn't been an issue in any PC lego game release ever. You cannot make use of your high refresh rate monitor if you own one. You cannot make use of your ultrawide monitor if you own more. Hell, if you're still stuck on a 4:3 screen, sucks to be you i guess because the game will now stretch instead of rendering properly like it it in the originals.

So all in all, this collection is an unnecessary and worthless cashgrab that was only released for parity with consoles. You can get both of the original games for pennies these days so just do yourself a favour and buy that, and if you really want achievements just get a checklist and flag them yourself or something. Do not support this.
