Compared to Shenmue 2: twice the grind, half the story. pick it up if you want to know what happens next (which is not much). The story ends on a cliffhanger less natural than the previous ones.

Important note: if you don’t pee, you lose health.

Absolute disappointment, The first game is better. In the first game you had 6 button layout like street fighter, now you have 2. In the first game you knew exactly what move you were going to execute, which was 70% of the fun. Now the buttons are kick and punch an you execute them randomly, This will cause your attack to not land most of the time and it’s frustrating because it’s not your fault, there’s nothing worse in a game that for it feeling unfair. Big mistake.

The other new mechanic that finally kills the game is the new auto lock on system. The game now auto targets enemies and won’t let you wander around freely. This will cause weird camera angles and escaping fights near impossible. The only way of exiting auto target is jumping back, which is now the only way to dodge attacks. What were the devs thinking? If you have your back against a wall, you are dead, same result if behind you you have an enemy.

Stay clear of this disaster, stay on the first game.

Hot take incoming:

The game was advertised as a port from the PS1 original, no remake or remastering at all. I knew what I was purchasing and I got it. Is this overpriced for what you get? Absolutely. Should they have also included the PC Version that fixes most of the "issues" people complain about? Yes, totally. Should they have also included Twin Snakes to actually deliver every single MGS version there is in one package and justify the base asking price? YES. Thing is, that was not promised or advertised so I have no right to complain about it. I got what I paid for and what was advertised and people should start to understand that complaining about stuff that was not promised at all and tanking a game's score on those grounds is not ok in my opinion. If you don't like the product and you know what you are going to get, then don't buy it. If you want the superior version of this classic, go to another storefront and purchase the native PC release. That one has basically all the things people complain about here.

They said "hey, you are going to get the PS1 game AS IS" and that means no video settings, no better graphics, no audio settings, no NOTHING. That would be a remaster which is not what this is. It is an as-is re-release. Call it lazy all you want, but if you purchased it with all that info available from day 1, it's on you. So please if you are going to downvote this re-release, do it valid grounds like "it doesn't run" or something that prevents the product from functioning as it should. You can even validly complain about the game not being fun nowadays in your opinion due to dated mechanics if you are a newcomer and recommend against buying it on those grounds. But please, if you are a player that already knows this game inside and out and you still purchase this knowing what you were going to get... abstain from downvoting because technically it wouldn't be fair since the company delivered the product that was promised to you exactly as they said they would.

Well seems they ditched Unreal Engine and went with RE Engine and they did just fine. Sometimes it is good to just go with an in house engine which you can bend and mold to your liking since you know it inside and out. The online is superb, felt like I was playing USF IV all over again and it felt GOOD. I won't buy it though, until they release Bison, that is... My name says it all after all.

Early Access Review
As of February 2023, it is playabale. It has a lot of potential. I have fun playing it even though is rough around the edges. I hope they soon implement more admin features for servers.

ATTENTION: If you are in another region other than US, EU or Japan. STAY AWAY. Go get the Xbox App version (larger player base console + PC, less bugs and actually accurate matchmaking regions). This version was NOT MADE FOR YOU. Details below.

Last patch broke the matchmaking region fix. Now anyone who lives in a "not-important-enough country" for Bandai has the wrong region, because they default you to EU since they can't even be bothered to map countries to the closest and most reasonable region. You are doomed, basically you won't be able to play online anymore since you won't find matches and, if you do, the game will freeze and crash 80% of the time in the loading screen and award you a disconnection. I opened a support ticket and it's been a month. Bandai won't add a region selector just like they did on the switch. The NINTENDO SWITCH has an already implemented more flexible matchmaking system to mitigate this issue and they won-t even bother to port that small feature here. It's shameful at best. THANKFULLY Steam agreed to refund due to the borderline insulting Bandai response in the support ticket opened within their platform. They blatantly accepted they broke the game and that they will not fix it. Even encouraged me to refund. In few words: "Yeah we know about the issue; yeah, we broke the fix. No we won't fix it, people in your situation doesn't represent much of the sales so go get your refund". The response was so god awfully dismissive and disrespectful that even my assigned Valve representative for the refund ticket was left astonished. They had no other choice than a swift refund, even with my 175+ hour playtime. Refunded due to the patch breaking the game.

Well, I bought this thinking that it would be extremely bad and... yes, as a Metal Gear game it is terrible. On its own though... I wish Konami didn't stamp the Metal Gear name here and just called it "Between Worlds: Survive" or something like that and advertised it as a Survival Base building game made in the Fox Engine. It's very slow to start, but I ended up having fun. Paid 4 bucks for it so at that price I think it is worth it. Buy if you like Survival + Base Building. If you hate to grind, gather resources and losing progress if you die before arriving to your home base, stay away. If this game didn't require internet connection I would recommend it much more.

No, it's not perfect. Yes it has thousands of cheap deaths that aren't your fault. Yes, multiplayer is broken... STILL, the main hub is the most beautiful in all the games (looks and music) and the story is meaningful too. It is enjoyable in its own way. If in doubt, buy it heavily discounted.

Well game is easy to pick up and fun with friends. That's about it.

Netcode is trash and balance is trash (some assists or even character powers are straight up worthless or abismaly inferior). Only those two things kill any fighting game nowadays. Wanna win? you have to go meta (if you even find a match online that is).

Edit 2024: As of now the game works fine on the Steam Deck. 3 people or so play always online. Same dudes, always. They will abuse the shield break glitches and spam the toguro assist. You have been warned.
