It's pretty alright I guess.

No ultra-wide support in 2022. Lame.

Awesome game overall, but definitely didn't reach it's full potential. I loved the exploration and wonder of the game. The obtuse nature of how the game is explained was a positive for me as well. It took me a good 15 hours to understand how things worked. This may be a turn off to some folks.

The environment is incredible, and I don't think I've ever had more fun exploring a world in a game. Stumbling upon some crazy new monster or hidden ruins is always a rush of excitement.

The combat is technically fine, but didn't seem very refined to me (I played as a strider, assassin, and fighter). And the bosses and monsters are amazing in their design and epic in their scale, however boss fights can be EXTREMELY tedious and take an incredibly long time.

It's a game that I had a ton of fun with and would recommend to anyone who enjoys action rpgs. I really hope they finally release a real sequel that refines all the things that the first got so right.

It's basically Super Smash Bros on quack.

Meh.... that's about all I can say about it.

I waited until it was only $19 to buy it and once most of the horid launch bugs were fixed. The game ran okay on my pretty powerful rig (4770k, 780 SLI) and looked really nice. However, the gameplay was tedious and didn't keep my attention. Would definitely buy this for $5 if you have decent specs. Otherwise, it should be a pass.

BEST GAME EVER.... seriously though, if you can actually summon your inner Kung Fury (which is only when I'm uncomfortably high) you can kick some serious ass. It's a game that seems simple, but requires some very mathmatectly calculated, almost artistic moves to master. I'm only at 117k points (2nd on the half fake scoreboard), but the feeling you get when you are in the zone on this game is uncomparable.... also, the Mitch Murder sountrack is amazing, For the price... what the hell, buy this ♥♥♥♥. Then go buy some Mitch Murder albums.

Of course this is a great game. It's very well optimized and has plenty of options to tweak. However, this review is in protest to their abhorrent business practice of marking up the game and then discounting it back to it's original price for the Steam Sale. They do add some in game currency to the bundle, but I believe that keeps you from being able to return the game. Yikes. If you were waiting for a discount... wait a little longer.

After playing Dark Souls constantly for the past couple of months, I decided to get Dark Souls 2 on a whim. I am now having extreme buyers remorse. I have only played less than an hour and everything so far is inferior to the intro of DS1. Not to say that it doesn't get better. This is an initial impressions review.

The original exuded dread in your first minutes in that new bleak and confusing world. The voice acting was superb in its odd emphases and creepy laughter. The music was sparse and perfectly dispersed throughout the world. Walking into firelink shrine for the first time was incredible.

Dark Souls II's intro sequence is the exact opposite. The voice acting of the intro cut-scene and first interactions are so unoriginal and sound like any other Japanese action game. They tell you everything straightforward and without originality.

Somehow, the graphics look worse than DS1 (albiet with a couple mods, but still that was released years ago). And not just the blocky-ness and bad textures. It's much more an issue with everything being oddly bright in the beginning.

Additionally, the controls are much less smooth so far. I just had to vent about my initial impressions of the game. I will update as I continue. So far, my only thoughts are asking myself why I'm not playing DS1.

UPDATE: I was pretty drunk when I wrote this review. After starting a new game sober, I realized the game is actually pretty awesome when not looking at it through pissed-off, drunk idiot eyes. Switching to a thumbs up. I still agree with most of the things said above, but maybe not to such extremes. The style just isn't quite the same, but the substance seems to be there.

When I said the graphics look worse, it was definitely an exaggeration. They aren't as consistent as in DS1 and there are huge contrasts between low-poly models/low-res textures in the same shot as pretty nice visuals.

The main advantage so far over DS1 is the very highly populated online world. It seriously takes 10 seconds to get summoned for coop after placing a summon sign.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... ♥♥♥♥ yeah!
