completely revamped opinion due to extended playtime

EDIT: SPOILERS BELOW

Once Hinas gone after that amazing cutscene, there's nothing beyond that fills the gaps. It's clear how important and Vital Hina was to the game. She was absolutely the pillar for everything. Also our MC Val, and the entire cast are extremely uninteresting without Hina. Theres nothing or no one to sort of bounce off of, for lack of better words.

When you take away someone as important as Hina, which is fine, you need someone else to fill their shoes, preferably the cast that you've gathered up to this point.

But none of them do, they have literally nothing interesting going on after Hinas gone. When you talk to them in town, they say the most generic surface level stuff that puts you to sleep.

It's really disappointing because the game was truly something else prior to Hina going away.

I think everything afterwards is a significant drop in emotional impact, and my assumption is that it's due to Hina not being there. Really boring and uneventful with 0 feelings, also a lot of awful boss fights (especially the one on the ship for obvious reasons) and just uh...yea idk, that's all i got. game is downgraded to a 5/10 now. A real shame because we had something here, but everything post-Hina exit is bland and boring, the cast is awful

The best OST ever created in a game, easily worth $60 if you just run around and listen to the music.

I'm not sure how there will ever be a game to top this, but that's clearly a long journey, and probably an unrealistic one.

Even compared to the masterful Nier Automata OST, it tops it quite easily.

I'm talking about the music so much because it's precisely this aspect of the game that ties everything else together near perfectly, as in: the characters, art style, combat, and the story.

It flows perfectly through each cutscene, combat encounter, area map, you name it.

Add the dynamic day/night themes to further boost the effects

If I live long enough to even have a chance at hearing sounds this beautiful from another game, that's a damn good life that's well spent

Also everything else is damn good but buy it for the the unique musical experience. This is one of those games where the OST should be listened to as you play, and not just listened to on Youtube/Spotify before hand.

9.5/10. One of the best gaming experiences you can find

Reading these positive reviews makes me fully understand why modern games suck now

Arise is one of the worst games ever made and anyone rating it positively has no clue what they are talking about

Easily the worst Ys game out of the 5 I've played so far.

It's worth playing for Kana, Kanririka and the OST

but besides that it's pretty bad everywhere else

I deleted my essay of a review. I'm at the end of the game, and I can safely say it's the worst game I've ever played to date

Don't buy it unless you enjoy receiving headaches from a million particles and effects.

Most of the battles are so fast and spammy that nothing in the game matters at all. You're just going to press L1 and R1 as fast as possible and kill everything.

You will get hit/die a lot for using the game mechanics, that being perfect counters. Enemies will hit you mid COUNTER when you are unable to act at all.

The story is awful

The characters are non existent

Towns and cities are boring

The progression and battle system are terrible

1.9/10

Extremely overrated

Terrible aesthetic

No sense of adventure the Ys series is king of doing

Noxs suck hard

Prison segments are a vastly inferior rip off of the Dana segments in Ys 8

The bar is a vastly inferior rip off of castaway village

4 good tracks in the game

Devoid of life

Just play Celceta or Ys 7 or Ys 8 or any other Ys game that isn't Ys 9

For anyone having bad performance issues

Cap your monitors refresh rate to 60

Download RivaTuner and limit the FPS to 60.

I've played 40 minutes so far and the performance has been overwhelmingly better. Hopefully this can help some of you out there.

One of the best JRPG's of all time, now has almost infinite replayability because of the fantastic modding community. 420 hours and I still have a couple of difficulty mods to play through. if you want to play this game in its most difficult state, I recommend heading over to nexus and checking out Eternal248 and his mod called proud mode. If you want a more challenging experience, but less brutal, then check out his mod called Struggle For Freedom. You will constantly be engaged in the combat with both difficulty mods, and there are many differences between his mods and vanilla FF12.
