A menu within a menu within a window, within poorly constructed menus and controls. It's perhaps not as bad as ARMA, but the few hours I did play 99% of the time, I was lost in settings and bugs.

Bugs (shorter list) - I had issues using a controller; it says "mostly playable" on the store page but in reality it has absolutely zero controller support neither on foot or in menus. Another bug I had was trying to get the game to accept sending audio to my headset - resulting me in to having to close and reopen the game a few times.

Settings - the UI with interacting with things, general control settings seem very wonky and convoluted.

Controls - Almost as bad as ARMA. For some reason they decided to turn something as simple as entering a vehicle into a 3-step process where you can enter after holding interaction down for 5 seconds, or tinker with supplies on something like a truck, to auto entering the driver seat while tinkering with supplies. Then when you are in the truck - you have to hit a separate magical button to start the engine (I couldn't get it to work on the keyboard, but I could start an engine via a controller layout I found). For a lot of the time, I would use a controller layout until I had to use keyboard, and when using keyboard and something very stupidly simple like "crouch" or starting an engine - I had to go back to the controller because it was simpler.

I cannot understand why you can't just go to prone (Z), to standing upright. In the tutorial even, I could go from prone to crouch just fine but standing was .... like finding a gold brick in your behind, under a foot, while hand standing on a chair. If you are in prone and jump - it'll let you stand but you'll also go from prone to literally a hop in the air before you were standing.

Other than these issues... The game ran good, the walking and running motions were amazing. The firing of any weapon were amongst the best in FPS gaming. Even throwing objects like grenades were feeling really good. The slow and deliberate aiming of the weapons and other gun-play were superb. It could really be a game changer if they simply worked on the controls and UI to a more friendly level.

Do I recommend this game? Yes, sort of, but not really. [Before I beat it review]

I like the aspect of Dungeons & Dragons, but the restrictions on the world in this game are a bit over the top. Stores do reset with randomized items to purchase, though not nearly enough like a true RPG (potions refill but gear barely randomizes if at all). Enemies and random encounters do not happen in this game which removes so much immersion and surprise to the overall game. It'd have been better if both or either options happened where enemies did respawn or if there were random encounters that'd offer some surprise, XP, and unexpected loot.

I would classify this game as a deep-lite RPG. The world isn't really there - so there's little to immerse yourself in. The game revolves so much around dialogue and choices, and removes the utilities of surrounding yourself in a world. Although, what you can interact with such as using jump or teleport anywhere - is kind of amazing. Another key note to mention here is that you never feel a sense in which you can explore or discover anything freely - because everything feels so rushed and timed (and there are plenty of timed events in which you're required to find something in the world, do something in the world, or speak to someone in the world or you will lock yourself out of options.

Another thing I've discovered which is a lacking shame is the max level. Contrary to 20 being about it in D&D, this game maxes out at level 12.

As of 10/12/24, This game has exceeded expectations and pulled itself into a rather good place. The gameplay is clean and fun; without bugs or performance issues. Actually, it could be a pretty great game, with fast, action-packed matches. The gunplay is still fair, it could be improved but it's still very enjoyable. Vehicles are awesome and feel powerful. The class system is pretty decent.

If I were to still make suggestions - I'd love a more in-depth gun customization closer to Ghost Recon or COD. I'd love to be able to change more sections of our guns instead of just 4 objects. I'd also like to see the inclusion of more guns, many more guns, like they need to add guns periodically for each season or update. I'd also say yes to more cosmetics, even if I had to buy some of them.

I used to give this game a 2/10, but now days I'd maybe give it a 7/10.

As of 12/2/22, I'd have to say no; still after this long - the game is so poorly optimized I had 3 freezes/crashes before ever getting into a real match and once I did get into the match, it was so laggy and glitchy even on Low graphical settings. The server lag was also atrocious.

On the matter of the game itself minus any bugs - I wasn't a fan of the menus or the very weak ability to customize your loadout or looks. I'm not a fan of this pre-made character selection much like what Rainbow Six Siege did. Also, I wasn't a fan of not being able to adjust fire modes (or not explaining how to if it was possible).

Positives though - the graphics did look alright, and the gunplay seemed enjoyable.

My DL2 Review:

On the surface, it's a great game; it's fun, the gameplay is fluid, and it's all the same fun of the original. Certainly worth the purchase!

In depth (mostly my negatives):

Fear Factor: It's not as scary as the first game. Partially since we know what to expect if we played the first Dying Light, we know the enemies and their behaviors. Reality though is, at night in Dying Light 1 - you'd see tons of Volatiles roaming the streets and they'd see you if you weren't careful, but in Dying Light 2 - you won't ever see a Volatile until you reach a Level 3+ Chase or unless you enter certain Dark Zone HV Facilities. This should be fixed, Volatiles should emerge at nightfall. Another difference is that the hordes on the streets are pretty small. I haven't made a direct comparison if it's similar to DL1, or if it's just my expectations of the technology these days; I'd have thought hordes could be larger if they aren't.

Weapons:
They're fun, just as fun if not better than the original game. A massive caveat is that you cannot completely craft weapons like Machetes, but more importantly is that you cannot repair any weapon either. The only way to repair a weapon is by adding a mod to it, so if you want the most efficiency - use a weapon until it's almost broken - then put mods on it to repair it for one more hoorah with the weapon. It's not a terrible issue since you can find weapons anywhere, and if you horde weapons like me - you'll find yourself in late game with a bunch of Level 1 and 2 weapons that only do 20 damage when current weapons you pick up will do 60 damage. - Side note, Venom doesn't seem as effective. 2nd Side note, Hilt and Tip mods seems convoluted and not explained well enough; seems the only purpose is to be able to add 2 different element mods but there doesn't seem to be any other difference.

Gear: Not great. Plainly, they add stats sure, yeah. But so far all of the gear looks lame, nothing seems to match. And it makes Looters like Anthem look simple because you'll be hard pressed to find gear that you actually want. For example, you might try to make a Ranger build, but you only find junk and then you'll only find Tank gear that has a armor rating, and you'll find Brawler gear that has an outstanding 4%+ XP on Combat. I'd love to see a legit camo, maybe a dark hooded Ranger outfit; not something bright colored that only a hipster would wear.

Skills:
The skills are pretty solid, everything fits well together and the way to progress is a nice pace also. You have to actually work at it in order to get better; no more spamming XP to get to God Mode. On the other hand, there is only 1 gripe about the skills; there seems to be less than DL1. For example, there is no camouflage anymore. On the other hand, they've added more skills such as combat skills - it plays more like a Far Cry game (in a good way). I certainly approve of this new skills mechanic.

My Positives:
It's a great game and I love the voice acting and the choice mechanic. Absolutely redefines the zombie genre and I can't ever look back on other zombie type games without holding them to this standard. Also, the fighting and parkour are out of this world and they're better and smoother and they simply feel better. The combat feels very satisfying and nothing could be more satisfying than taking that third machete swing that's a back swing and you lop off a head. It has some issues that I'm sure will be worked on in the next few months, but the game is already in such a great spot as it is. It is much deeper than the generic story from the first game (not to say the first game was bad), but it seems better to get lost in the story/world of this game.

Early Access Review
A brilliant game. Well put together for being an Early Access game. Heck - more developed as an Early Access game than other games that have been in EA for 5 years now.

But digressing, this game is pretty amazing and the developers are putting out an update to squash bugs every day so far, and even updating us two times a day some days. The graphics are great; thing a blend between KCD and Green Hell with building mechanics similar to The Forest and Green Hell. I mean, what more could you ask for? It's kind of like a more realistic Skyrim, set in a real era within our medieval ages - but you can build your own!

The controls are phenomenal and movement/animations are smooth. There's no clunkiness here.

The sound is alright. There is a gap here - because some animal sounds are great (foxes), some seem poorly recorded (bears), but in the end of the wintery nights - you can hear your (and others) beautiful foot prints as they crunch the snow under them (beautifully).

As for mechanics... The game has a lot in it already, such as a very fair number of buildings you can build for your settlement. Everything you'd need to start off with. But but but... There could be more buildings, and buildings could do more. There are a lot of Work In Progresses, where many of the unlockable perks (more on this later) and buildings that can take workers - but some of the buildings are "broken" and have no bonuses from having a worker in them. For example, the tavern can have a worker but they will only cook and not raise morale or generate revenue. There are no inn's, although the worker you would assign to a tavern is called an "inkeeper" - so if you travel to other towns and it becomes night time, there's no where you can "rent for a night" or stay at. There are some things that should be added on here at a later date such as bandits (confirmed), and better diplomacy between your settlement and other factions (which could lead to building a garrison or unlocking more features at taverns for state buildings).

As for perks... There are a ton of perks in the game, and an extra layer of perks called "technology" where after doing something so many times you can learn a tier of technology where you have to purchase the blueprints. The blueprints can be anything from a shovel to being able to craft full woolen outfits and sell them at a huge profit. The only thing I would like changed with the perks is that most perks have to deal with "speeding up 'activity' by '%'". I'd rather the perks make you better at any activity so you'd get more out of it (harvesting more resources instead of just harvesting the same amount faster) - or maybe a high crafting skill could craft double of the same item or maybe require less resources instead of just crafting the same 1 item a little faster.

Finally - NPC's, there are NPC's in the game, and you can talk to every one of them. Some of them (generally the NPC's by the fire in each town) can be recruited to your settlement after acquiring enough reputation and friendliness with them. But other than talking to NPC's to raise friendship or romance, there's not much else. And right now - every dialogue choice is 40-60 that you'll be given choices that will only hurt your reputation. Most players have resorted to having to quick save and quick load because trying to raise reputation is so finicky. There are quests that 2-3 people will have for you in each town, and you can get generated quests from your own citizens to help them out, but as for main story lines - there's kind of 2; a tutorial story line teaching you basics about building your settlement, and dealing with the governmental figure in the region. They're not bad though.

Overall, giving the state and age of the game I'd give it a : 10/10!
Overall, (disregarding state and age), I'd give this game a : 7/10!

F-ing bloody hell. This game is hell.

Played the game all day today almost and I just diedieidieideidiediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediediedie. Everytime I build a bed, and I start to build some stands, and get about half way through building a shelter (ON DAY ONE). Then I get bit by a ♥♥♥♥ing snake, or a ninja dart takes me out, or I stumble and fall while looking for a stone in a rainforest, or a ♥♥♥♥ing stick in a forest. All hard things. But no matter what I die, or the game crashes when I'm finally starting to look good.

This game is ♥♥♥♥ing harder than godzilla ♥♥♥♥♥.
13/10 Would buy 3 times over.

A completely single-player review of the game as I generally get more enjoyment out of COD stories rather than multiplayer.

But in a campaign standpoint - this is probably the best COD experience I've ever had. I very rarely write reviews, so when I do - it's critical; either critically good (surprising) or critically bad. This game is on the forefront of critically and surprisingly good. It gives you an option to approach your missions (and in what order), many of them being side quests that are completely optional (gave me a strong Mass Effect vibe). Not only does it give you the option to choose your missions, it allowed me to choose my loadout BEFORE the mission started (except for one mission). Which is revolutionary for the FPS world of COD and BF games. It allowed me to choose my weapons and up to 3 attachments per weapon; so not as indepth as a Tom Clancy game like Ghost Recon where you can change camo color also.

But seeing this as a first time in a AAA FPS game, I don't think I can go back. I hope every COD, BF, etc game has this kind of choice making in their future game campaigns.

10/10 amazing legendary.

Graphics 9/10
World 10/10
Map 7/10
Story 7/10
Audio 8/10

The story is good but bland and predictable at times. And you'll come across missions that you'll hate regardless of what faction you support, but you won't be able to finish the game without hating a mission or betraying your faction. And the main quest is boring, and aggrivatting by the end.

Great game. But in 2017/2018, it's unplayable without a controller (for me)- and this game has No controller support (despite Fallout 3 having it).
