This is a game that gets as interesting and deep as you want. There is a lot to do and discover, yet it doesn't feel overwhelming with it.

You feel like you want to lose yourself in a galaxy (quite literally)? You can do that!
Have a pet? Yeah!
Name the things you are literally the first one to discover? Be creative! (or not)
Run missions on many sorts of adventures across the galaxy and get rewarded for it? You can!
Want to build your ultimate base? By all means!
Want to grow your own stuff that you can sell at your base? Sure!
Want to play a trader and get rich buying and selling stuff from different space stations? Go ahead.
Want to discover what other players have built or read a message that they left? Absolutely!
Have your own fleet that you can manage and send on missions on their own? Yep, all aboard your own freighter, too.
Gather a collection of different starships? Sure thing!
Smuggle stuff and get rich for it? Yup
Want to play as a pirate and eff everyone that dares cross you on your path? Ok... go... you psycho...

Believe it or not, those are only a few things you can do in NMS. The game can be quite absorbing and entertaining, and the best of it is that Hello Games just keeps adding stuff to it, semi-regular updates that add meaningful new ways to play the game. They really deserve all the praise they get.

===UPDATE on Nov 27th 2023===

Ok, the new management at 343i is really turning things around for the better, The multiplayer is finally where it should have been from the start: variety in playlists, armor cores are slowly becoming more user customization friendly, community made maps and modes get highlighted and the best Forge any Halo has ever had really puts the "infinite" in Halo Infinite because of the endless possibilities content creators can do with it.

Forge is no longer a "map editor". It evolved from that to an actual "game experience creator".

Still it has some room for improvement and desync is still a thing, but overall the experience is much better. Predatory store slightly improved, then it became predatory again.

OG review below:
___________________________________

Gameplay is a huge improvement over Halo 5, and aesthetically it is an improved version of the classic Halo looks.

But while the game plays exceptionally well, the lack of dedicated playlists for specific game types, along with the heavily grindy season pass, and the predatory store selling very basic stuff for crazy amounts of money, I honestly can't recommend it.

I've been a Halo fan for a long time, but I can not in good faith let fanboyism get in the way and endorse the current progression system for the game as a F2P title that supposedly is set to as a platform for the next 10 years of Halo.

The good thing though is that 343i is listening and promising improvements in the future, but until they happen, I'll stand by my current statement.

=====WARNING: LONG, PASSIONATE REVIEW AHEAD=====

The full package itself is guaranteed to give you hours and hours of content to enjoy. From single player campaigns with amazing level design, legendary soundtracks by the great ones Marty O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori, with Neil Davidge and Kazuma Jinnouchi also making a great contribution with Halo 4. Unique and amazing voice acting, with a compelling sci-fi story with surprisingly deep characters for an FPS game. These games are an experience every gamer should try at least once.

And if you want more immediate and "simple" action, you also get a great variety of multiplayer matchmaking games that go from PvE modes to PvP... and PvP can be objective based or straightforward killing, within a very interactive and responsive sandbox of weapons, vehicles and other tools and objects, in a huge variety of classic maps from all Halo games that paint an interesting picture of the gaming industry depending on the time period each respective Halo title released at.

Despite having one of the roughest launches in recent memory, 343 has redeemed themselves in my eyes with the current state of the MCC.

The story of the collection goes like this: back when it launched on Xbox One in 2014, they Included Halo CE Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3 and Halo 4. And all of them had some sort of issue going on with them. And matchmaking, one of the most attractive features about this pack, was literally unplayable due to connectivity issues that took weeks and many updates, until they finally managed to glue it together. They did offer some compensation for it: a month of Xbox LIVE gold and, because the community asked, they also announced they'd bring ODST to the collection, free of charge for those affected during the launch days.

So, they added Halo 4's Spartan Ops, ODST's campaign (everybody wanted firefight, but oh well...), and they slowly started updating the game to actual playable levels. Looking for games in matchmaking was no longer an issue for anyone.

But still, the lack of support was slowly becoming more evident: they stopped releasing the big updates, despite people still complaining about a lot of performance issues and discrepancies of the games in the MCC compared to their original releases. To address the elephants in the room: Halo CE original broken graphics were carried over from their awful PC port (visually speaking) and Halo 3's netcode was obviously broken, since shooting felt so off compared to the original. And armour customization was practically non-existent, which was one of the coolest ways to express yourself through your spartan.

This cry from the community went on for YEARS. The community almost gave up all hope for the collection to ever be fixed... and not only that, but they also were disappointed that they brought ODST's campaign, but not firefight, which was a revolutionary game mode in the franchise. The community also asked for Halo Reach to be added to the collection, but there was just "dust and echoes"...

But then, one day, 343 industries finally decided that enough was enough and they did the unthinkable: they listened to the community. "ODST's firefight? You got it. Armour customization back to it's original state? We'll enhance it while we're at it. Halo 3's netcode feels off? Let's make it feel fun then! You want Reach added to the collection? You got it, oh and since you've been asking for so long, it's coming to PC too, along with the rest of the collection."[/i]

Boy, did they deliver with this second wind they gave to the MCC, especially on PC. Don't get me wrong, it was a very bumpy road at the beginning of the MCCs life on PC. Reach's audio was very muffled and it felt like it took them forever to fix. Halo CE's original graphics have been partially restored to their OG Xbox look. Halo 2 plays and looks better than ever. Halo 3 multiplayer netcode is finally fixed. Firefight was added for ODST at no additional charge if you already owned it, plus, they added matchmaking for it which was non-existent in the OG ODST firefight. And Halo 4 was probably the one that transitioned to PC the smoothest out of all the games in the collection, since 343i actually created that one.

But there is still A LOT to fix: First of all, controllers do have a little too much magnetism to them, making them... not an "aim-bot" as many would say, but obviously the go-to choice if you want to land some shots in MP, where everything can be happening so fast and everywhere and KB+M can sometimes get outplayed by the action going around. Campaign net-code is still not entirely fixed, so co-op IS very playable, but can stutter like mad if you're playing with a friend that is really far from you, even if other co-op games play just fine.

And my final comment on the most recent BIG addition to the collection: crossplay. They finally united the community despite platform and now you can easily find games, no matter what platform you're playing on. The KB+M vs Controller issue was sort of balanced here, with the option to just look for input-based matchmaking or not care and look for a mix of the two. Your choice. Still, there is some work left to do.

Given by all the evidence this past year, 343i is really interested (and delivering) in still making the franchise relevant almost two decades after it first arrived to our homes via Xbox. They finally let all those PC players that wanted to experience the Halo franchise to do just that, and in the best way possible. And OG Halo fans like me (I humbly declare) can also enjoy the franchise like never before, since PC offers so many possibilities no console can, starting with mods, that I anxiously expect for 343i to add official support to the collection.

They're improving the MCC experience on ways no one could have imagined they'd actually do: adding a leveling system, with challenges (for PvP and PvE modes) that you'll enjoy to complete that ease up leveling up. New customization options that didn't even exist before, and crossplay is just a dream come true.

As I already said, there is still A LOT left to do, but after this year, I'll say what I thought would be unthinkable of saying a couple of years back: the Halo franchise might be in good hands after all.

343i fixed the mess they brought with the MCC and are improving the games in many ways. Halo Infinite's delay, might not be a bad sign after all, but a sign of 343i reacting once more to the fanbase to improve what they've done, but this time before everyone sees the dumpster fire. And as for Halo 5, I think they will port that one to PC at some point, too. It wouldn't make sense to leave the franchise incomplete on PC at this point.

So, if this is your first time ver trying Halo, I wish you to completely enjoy the gaming franchise that probably cemented me as a gamer almost 20 years ago, and I hope it brings you as much joy as it has brought me all this time! This franchise also made me meet some great people that I proudly call my friends, some of which are sadly not anymore with us, but I still remember fondly because of Halo. And maybe the Halo Community might not be the same as it was back between Halo CE and Halo 3, but I do hope this second wind 343i has been giving to the OG games make some of the magic from those years come back!

Now, if you excuse me, I NEED A WEAPON...

After 26.9 hours, I FINALLY got my first crown... and it was fun every second of it. Fun game, not dead at all as many people claim it to be. Maybe outside of NA, so yeah... take that into consideration if you plan on buying this game from any other continent.

The game is especially fun when played with friends, since you can get many laughs from the min-games themselves to the shenanigans that happen during them, accidental or not. The artistic approach to the game is spot on, since seeing this silly bean creatures go through all the turmoil is appealing to the audiovisual senses, even if you're about to lose the round.

Fair feedback: devs need to do something to keep the player base and to keep attracting new players, otherwise the game's population surely will fall to alarming levels. Right now is ok.

I spotted a great multiplayer in your AO, over.

Be advised: there are no official servers anymore, but you can still find descent servers with no A-holes admins.

Look out: some in-game assignments might be harder to unlock because there is practically no way to obtain them because some require playing game modes that no server has (chain link, for example).

Still a great multiplayer even to this day, over.

This game is still in a very early state. Looks like ♥♥♥♥. Plays like ♥♥♥♥. Just like the OG POSTAL 2. I <3 it.

In my review for "POSTAL 2: Paradise Lost" I said I would buy "Postal: The sequel's sequel" on day one, and here I am, honoring my word, because I trust RWS will do a fantastic job with this title.

Looking forward with enthusiasm to experience how this game evolves over time. Right now, looks promising. True to its POSTAL 2 roots.

----- 11/27/2019 EDIT -----
Now the game looks way better, devs are adding new features, improving the landscape and adding gameplay mechanics that are really game-changers. P4 just keeps getting better and better... and they're only starting.

----- 02/06/2020 EDIT -----

Just fixed some typos. Just as RWS is fixing stuff, preparing the ground for the good stuff that is yet to come.

Oh, and by the way: My initial statement about the game looking and playing like **** was obviously a joke. The game feels pretty close to its POSTAL 2 roots, which is why I love POSTAL 4. And so will you if you loved P2.

----- 11/22/2022 EDIT -----
Performance has had a great improvement as the updates get released, but it's still needs some slight work. The game feels way more complete now, but it still needs a lot of polishing in many areas, but overall still an amazing experience to play through, especially now that you can choose your favorite Postal Dude voice to play as.

CD Projekt's masterpiece. Worth every cent even when it's not on sale.
