It is the 90s, and there is time for Klax

The science is in -- the deep oceans contain the most loathsome creatures on Earth. From sad little excuses for microbes, to giant abominations that are as ugly as they are fearsome, until you realize you have been hoodwinked by nature documentaries with their macro lenses, they are actually hilariously small and defenseless. Things with teeth at odd angles, disgusting glowy dangly fleshy bits... wormy things engorged on the noisome pus of the world that has sunk into the scummy depths. Crabs without valor, shrimp without rhyme or reason, delicate neuronic lattices of jellies that flicker presumptuous patterns of light through their transparent nervous systems, then reduce to unremarkable brown ooze in daylight and normal atmospheric pressure, to your satisfaction and delight. The Japanese will send massive cruel steel plows and sucker-tubes into this freakshow world to extract rare earths from the muck and broken bodies of the subterranean creatures with some mechanical industrial stomach. Some of the pipe intestines will ooze carbon chain proteins which they will dry and compact into crackers that may be served with noodles. The company mascot for the crackers will be this giant silver robot with a freezing ray who intones in a grave dramatic voice, "Fish, and plankton. And sea greens, and protein from the sea. It's all here, ready. Fresh as harvest day. Fish and sea greens, plankton and protein from the sea. And then it stopped coming. And they came instead. So I store them here. I'm ready ... It's my job!"
