Evolve's resurgence is a sign that there is a lucrative franchise here, just give it another shot, devs. You need a good morale boost after Back 4 Blood, come on. There are lots of cute monsters who will hug you until you feel better!

This game is old. Really old.

But this game is also fun. Really, REALLY fun.

I mean, what other racing games do you know of that have two whole buttons dedicated only to making things explode? Best of all you can blow yourself up too! Wait what does that have to do with seeing a psychiatrist?

With the Steam Play together local thing, you can actually sort of bootleg multiplayer, albeit with only one person. I've not tested this, but I certainly will ASAP!

Early Access Review
This is, by far, one of the most unique games I've ever known, let alone played. The premise is staggeringly inspiring, and the execution phenomenal. The only negative thing I can think to say about it is that you can't customize your coloring.

EDIT 7/13/2021 - You can now customize your company color! ... But still not the AI's.

EDIT 12/17/2023 - You can now customize AI's company color! ... But still not the AIs' names.

This is a very unique game.

Its also a very hard game.

Its also a rather old game.

What does that mean? Well, no auto-saving, for one. On the one hand, that means no save-scumming, if you're one of thsoe people who have morals or something. On the other hand, if your computer crashes and you haven't saves since two chpaters ago, well not only do you lose the progress of the mission, you also have to redo those two chapters just so you can fail that mission it crashed on anyway.

Its a good game, don't get me wrong. Very pretty, but very flawed. I've not played or seen anything on Valkyria 4, but I'd like to think that instalment has auto-saving, and lets you save in the battles.

So why don't I reccomend this game? Well, I do, if you like your hero getting sniped and killed in the very last turn, forcing you to start the whole mission over. If you like Dark Souls, you'll like this game, basically. But I Do not reccomend this game to the casual gamer.

Welp for some reason my copy vanished. There goes $13...

But yes, the game is great.

Just be careful to play the game as often as possible or it'll auto-refund itself and vanish from your library...

This game is...

Fun.

But only if you know what you're doing and know how to take a defeat, which many of you don't. Just sayin'.

And don't let that (blatent NC propoganda) trailer fool you, its nowhere near as cool as the actual game. XD

But otherwise, its fun if you don't complain about every little thing, (I'm looking at you Emerald players...)

Dragon's Wake.

Is a game.

Well, that's fairly obvious, isn't it? But it is indeed a game that reminds me of such classics as Dark Souls. Its really hard. The first boss took me forever to beat, and the final boss took an ENTIRE HOUR. Seriously, EVERYTHING that can deal damage is a serious threat to you, regardless if its a bat or a freaking banshee.

But the game is well-built in the rest of its aspects. The art is pretty and atmospheric, and the contols are intuitive. The flight was fun to zip around. (though I wish your walking speed was faster.)

The music was really atmospheric too. Cave music felt like a cave, battle music felt like a battle, and so on.

((SPOILER WARNING. The following is the story, as I have encountered it. There are multiple endings, I think at least three.))
This rather short game revolves around you, a gender-neutral blue dragon peep who tries to do the right thing, making its way out of the caves. But before you even get far enough to fly with some ease, you happen acorss your dead mother/father/both. The murderer appears to be a knight dressed in black weilding an arsenal I can only assume he stores in his rectum. After you escape his pedophile face, you run into this male/female/both/neither lizard person who leads you back to the lizard village, which somehow still thrives depsite being miles underground without any water at all. But its here you find out that apparently these lizard folks worshiped your mom/dad/both, for reasons unknown. The lizard buddy then helps you recover a green dragon egg, who's mother/father/both had also been killed under mysterious circumstances. Once you return to the lizard village, the egg is placed on a magic eternally-burning altar. But don't get too comfortable! Because suddenly Goblins attack! Probably the original inhabitants of the cave systems, but moving on... Of course, you go to their home and slaughter all the goblins, inculding their chief, which is the first boss fight. After you roast him and devour his corpse, bones and all, you return to the lizard village expecting all to be well and good, right? Nope. The black knight from before has attacked, and killed just about everyone. The are a handfull of refugees, including the green egg and your lizard buddy who brought you there. Moving quickly, you and the refugees run through the cave systems to an abandoned underground castle. Because that's a thing? Sadly, in order to buy you and the other refugees time to close the drawbridge that spans a chasm, your lizard buddy sacrifices itself to hold off the black knight so you can close the gate and continue onwards. Along the way, the egg hatches into a beautiful baby green dragon boy/girl/both/neither! The castle place gets pretty scary though as you scout ahead to clear out the hordes of skeletons and ghosts so the refugees and young dragon can make it through unharmed. But its not all roses however, because the Black Knight attacks again, trapping a lizard refugee on a crumbling bridge, where he soon falls to his death. Poor guy/girl/both/neither. Though mournig the loss of a life, you soldier onwards, and seem to reach a gatehouse of sorts, but when the green dragon flies into the center chamber to investigate, the Black Knight stikes again, locking the door and forcing you to watch him cut open the baby green dragon like a turkey on thanksgiving! In a fit of rage, you run in next and try to pummel him into the floor like he did the young one's heart. After you get a few hits off, the ground collapses and you fall into a blantently obvious boss battle arena, where you face the second and final boss: The Black Knight himself! Only, he isn't really a knight, he's a skeleton too, and he very much wants to kill you for some reason. If you're skilled, persistent, or if you cheat, you kill him first, then kill his ghost, and the gate leading out just so happens to open at that exact moment in time, and you're free. You meet up with the remianing refugees, and you find the exit to the cave, and once you're through, its The End.

ALL IN ALL

This game is quite fun, though very short, and VERY depressing. It could probably be made into an app game, if the devloper wanted. I'd reccomend this game ONLY if you've got the extra cash to spend, and want a sad, yet oddly triumphant game to play that can help you bottle rage inside you in preperation for the Dark Souls playthrough you've been putting off.
