Over the last decade and a half Spiderman games have ranged from simply amazing (Web of Shadows) to relatively good (PS1) to abyssmal (Spiderman 2 on PC). Many follow the same formula of open world free-roam play mixed with story elements, indoor areas, a large selection of alternate costumes you can wear in style and crimes in progress you can foil. Ultimately the last point is the issue with TAS2.
While the majority of the game is great it is the random crimes that detract from the over all experience. In TAS2 many crimes will appear on the city map and you have a set amount of time to complete them before they vanish. These areas are cookie cutter encounters; repeated over and over with the same location, NPCs and objectives, and range from rescuing a car jacked woman to breaking a stand off between police and thugs. Failure to complete them removes Hero points and ultimately affects how the citizens of NYC view Spiderman and how they will react to him. Drop too low and the police will become hostile to you and attack you on sight, as will the Oscorp security forces dispatched to deal with the events in the game; including flying drones.
Being forced to complete these events becomes a monotonous chore after doing the same encounters over several dozen times and other than the Hero points, minor experience points and acheivements, does nothing to further the game or reward Spiderman in any significant way.
The major improvement over previous titles is the individual costumes you can upgrade along the way, each with its' own series of bonuses and they are very well done; both visually and the various bonuses they provide.

If you are a hardcore Spiderman fan and simply must play another free-roam Spidey game then by all means, pick this up. It is very fun (minus the random crimes) and the story is quite entertaining.

If you aren't a Spidey fan or simply don't want an experience where you must chew glass so you aren't attacked every 3 city blocks then I recommend you stay away from this title.

This is just a simple guide on which cores every hero uses, and what stats these cores grant.
