Excellent game, wonderful graphics, can get a little repetitive with the enemy variety but the game doesn't "overstay it's welcome", took 15 hours on the hardest difficulty (ignoring a lot of side collectables), side quests are worth your time here as they are interesting and sometimes eerie.

Will 100% be revisiting this game in the future.

I hope we get a sequel now Krafton acquired Tango Gameworks (If they own the IP, won't play a sequel by anyone else.)

Game felt unfinished and is pretty short with nothing but a bunch of fetch quests.

Cooking mini-game was just annoying and repetitive until you realise you can skip it.

Only thing I found redeeming was the art style, which is simple but it works nicely.

Bought this game in 2015 played for 25 hours~, boot up the game in 2024 to play it cause it was pretty fun but laggy on my older machine.

This is not the game I purchased it has been completely reworked into an action rpg?

Now it has Easy Anti Cheat? For a co-op game? absolutely crazy it should be optional the game takes a minute just to load past the crappy EAC screen.

The current iteration should have been a sequel or a different game entirely as it is not reflective of the game that was advertised when I originally purchased.

Still a gem of a game, even after 7 years of not playing.
Brilliant community and spirit all around.

Here are some of my thoughts of Battlefield 2042 from playing Beta and Early Access on Steam, in no particular order.

Weapon bloom / Handling / Hitreg / Hitboxes
Guns do not feel good in BF2042 there is a random bloom from the first shot which makes very little sense BFV had decent weapon handling, although recoil is random which can be annoying at times most the gunfights you get into your bullets go where you are aiming - This is not the case with BF2042 weather the hit reg is off or the bloom on certain weapons is way too high, sometimes hipfire is more accurate than aiming down sights which is baffling.

Hitboxes on certain characters seem very wrong, like the game is using 1 standard hitbox on all characters; this has been documented by people and should be a priority for fixing.

Hitreg is very wonky but this could also be a factor of the 2 things above.. Also 1 packet/bullet death is back, this was very prominent in BFV which was improved but never truly fixed.

Currently in the current state SMGs are more accurate and effective at range than Assault Rifles/LMGs especially with the higher fire rate that most SMGs have. On a side note the [PP-29 ] has a space in the killfeed, how do you miss something like this.

Optimisation or the lack of.
Frostbite Engine is known to be high system requirements especially on the CPU however the game is not even utilising CPU or GPU correctly in some cases the usage is only about 60% on both components, I’ve seen my GPU and CPU being used 60% on each with 90fps, however it felt much lower than 90fps due to the input lag this game is suffering from for whatever reason.

Movement is floaty, it doesn't feel grounded at all, you can sprint into a jump > ads > you keep the momentum, they are basically copying Call of Duty Modern Warfare without all the polish of that games movement. Jumping out of a slide gives you a movement boost which is dumb.

This game seems to lack a lot of polish and features from older titles as if they changed directions midway of development, the operators would fit more of a Battle Royale game since we all know Battlefield is known for squad play, unique classes and gadgets. Sure the Operators give more flexibility over the old system but the squad play hurts from this, as you can be a character that has healing and ammo making you completely self-reliant from the team. What makes this kinda confusing is that for whatever reason players have the old Assault/Medic/Support/Recon icons next or below their names, and say you see someone with an ammo icon they might not even have any ammo in their kit.

Vehicles are very imbalanced and really don’t behave correctly, yes I am talking about the hovercraft that can glide up walls and basically fly across the map. (I’m mostly an infantry player so I can’t talk much about vehicles, but the handling of some ground vehicles is kinda bad, you hit a small bump or rock and you sometimes just slide)

The maps are larger but honestly feel empty at times due to the fact a lot of the maps playable area is just open spaces and not really a good place to be, the maps should really have more objectives. The way this game was marketed it seemed like it was going to be more than just conquest.
https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/battlefield/battlefield-2042/game-overview/maps “each map is designed with multiple distinct combat areas that directly impacts strategy for you and your squad.”

Not sure why DICE seems to gimp it’s own game every release, they added new features in BFV even new game modes which would probably work better in a future combat sense (Frontlines and Outpost would probably work out nicely in smaller server sizes).
Removing Rush is a very strange decision considering it is a fan favourite from when it was added in BC1 (for console)/BC2 for all players, the maps could easily have 2 or 3 different Rush layouts so you don’t always play the same map.
I guess this is because they are marketing the game for *128 players* which is something that no one asked for, they just wanted a modern shooter since we have had 2 World War themed Battlefields back to back, all they needed to do was take BF4 update the engine and features

Another thing is that some people want a game they can play competitively, eSports is something that Battlefield has been trying to push into for a few years now, they had some plans for small scale modes for BF1 and BFV but both never really saw the light of day. There are some small teams that play pugs and even early in the game there have been small tournaments. However BF2042 currently does not even have a spectate mode which actually makes it impossible to cast any sort of eSports event, which I find truly bazaar.

I really don’t understand how people can say “Battlefield X/Y/Z was this bad at launch, give them time to fix it” this argument is very dumb, they have had 3 years to make this game they had 4 EA Studios working on this game, they have made 6 Battlefield games in the last decade stop making excuses for EA they have well established studios .

Here’s a small list of things removed / missing that was in multiple BF games prior:
Scoreboard: Crazy feature never seen before in any multiplayer game, no worries it’s not here in BF2042.
VOIP/Global Chat: Not really sure why they removed global chat, probably so when there’s a cheater in the lobby no one can call them out same goes with the scoreboard.
Stats Page: Can’t really see how well I’ve been playing or if I am improving, funny thing is BFV had a stats page from the start a BF community moderator has been seen teasing it on twitter like it’s some brand new exciting feature.
No Leaning: While not essential was a useful feature in BFV it has assisted in getting a few kills from peaking odd angles for me.
First Person Takedowns: The take down animations in BF1 and BFV where amazing and in some cases brutal, now they have been replaced with a buggy third person animation, clearly to sell take down animations in the future (Think Apex Legends).

After the beta they had the audacity to say to the media “Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive”, they clearly ignored the complaints about hit reg and operators looking all but identical no matter which team you are on, they could have mirrored each operator with different models but the same gadgets.. This game should have been delayed at least 6 months but instead they released it in this awful buggy state with poor optimisation.

tl:dr - Game is unpolished and buggy, poorly optimised, stutterfest. It needed more time in development, probably should have an “Early Access” tag on the store page cause it’s very lacking in weapons and features.
Wouldn’t recommend full price, probably try it with EA Play or Play Pro. Better yet come back when it’s probably on sale in December.

Crashes to desktop if you don't have a webcam, had to setup OBS to use a virtual webcam for the game to even launch and play.

Really should be fixed.

Also game is capped to 60fps? kinda disappointing honestly.
