First of all, i really liked the idea of rythm based shooter and i was looking forward to this game.

The problem here is rogue-like system.
1) Range. If you want to hurt an enemy, you have to get close to him otherwise enemy won't take damage. At all.
This is really weird idea to put range restrictions in a shooter game. I know that IRL bullets lose speed over time, but why should game deny damage completely? Would be interesting idea for some shotgun weapons, but not starting weapon.
Of course you can upgrade range with money, but... we will get to game's economy later.
2) Enemies. They are not bad.
But BOSSES, holy hell, 5 seconds in, and you dont understand what even is going on. Most Rogue like games have at least some warnings of attacking, how i was supposed to understand which way i should dodge in splitsecond?
3) Colouring. Previous point also suffers from this, surroundings are mostly covered in yellow colour and it's hard to figure out where is chest, small trader, coins. Most of things i was finding are simply because i occasionaly bumping into them.
4) Economy. I am the type of guy that tries to cover full stage, And all what i got at most times was 1 key at max and 3-4 coins, they are not enough to buy new weapon (5 coins). Also, you dont get free cheap weapon or start with any keys and coins like in most rogue like games. And you gonna meet 5-8 locked chests on your way. Good luck finding keys.
5) Health points. I like hardcore games, but with 4 hp, fast attacking enemies and frustrating bosses, range system. I can only spend coins on health flasks.

All of this was happenning on First Stage.

I really liked the music and idea of rythm shooter, but this rogue like system ruins all fun.

EDIT: Despite everything i said, this review was written on first day release, so there's high chance devs will read this toxic review from me and will change update their game for the better in future.
Right now i consider to wait some months for patches.

I am okay with this boss having a lot of health
I am okay with this boss having more abilities than its common counterparts.
I am partly okay that it appears on every mission
I am NOT OKAY with it having 2-turns after every move my soldiers do!

I either need a mod that disables this ability or I would rather play I wanna be the boshy.

The game is about relationships and friendship in hard mature times.

Developers right today said they gonna break all relationships with composer because they trusted some twitter post written by toxic Gamergate-hater composer's ex-girlfriend.

How hypocrititcal, isn't it?

EDIT: after I found out Alec died, I decided to leave vote up.
Devs are scumbags, but this game was also created by Alec. And this game rather should be recommended as one of his good games.

Also, If you really love Alec, check at least his other games, like his masterpiece Aquaria. I felt in love with Alec's music while playing Aquaria.

I would rather vote as neutral review.

First off, i was never a fan of endless battles in ANY game, it ruins the enjoyment of gameplay, it makes you tired, it makes you wish you could drop this mode already but your characters are still alive, and there are more monsters coming and you dont wanna quit right now because loot is nearly there. Than it repeats again like MADNESS.

Now this is the only main thing i dislike

I actually like everything else.
New monsters for different strategies!
New Horrifying Bosses...
New SRSLY HELPFUL events
New helpful currency, when you dont have enough materials to upgrade building or to build ... statues? (forgot how the called)
New trinkets, but sadly most of them are for endless mode only
New madness dialogues.
New 5(!!!!) musics with Alien vibes!
New roaming mini-boss.... actually wait, i hate it. He is as hard as Shambler, so you better hope you dont meet him... if you dont want big loot though.
and finally... NEW ANCESTOR QUOTES!

So basicly yeah, devs put a lot of great effort into this DLC, this DLC actually rewards you with big treasures. If only it wasn't a main boring idea of endless grinding.

I completed the game. And felt dissapointed.
I wont argue about combat system, because devs was experimenting with smth new. i am okay with that, even after 50 deaths at boss fights.
What really pisses me off, is that fraction choice (Humans or Elfs) WILL CUT 1/3 OF ALL QUESTS.
This particular game by considering your choice in first chapter WILL IGNORE a lot of plot details you could get if you chose different fraction. It pushes you to replay WHOLE game with Dark Souls difficulty so you could get other missed 1/3 middle line stories and get the same ending.

Ждал игру довольно долго (4 года), поддержал деньгами на кикстартере.
С одной стороны очень красивый дизайн как фона, так и персонажей, и местами оригинальные комбинации.
С другой геймплей просто выбешивающий, боты разносят вас как котенка, странная тренировка, которая спустя 6 несложных комбинаций из трех ударов заставляет выполнять комбинации земля-воздух-низ-земля-усиленный удар в одно дыхание с микроскопическим окном для ударов. Если вспомнить игру Skullgirls, такая адовая сложность была только в самых последних тренировках.
Не доработаны лобби игры. Зачем то требуют денег за вход в пещеру или за открытие сундука с украшением. Местная валюта зарабатывается только за победу над противником-человеком. Мы случаем не в Баттлфронт 2 превращаемся?

Честно говоря мне обидно описывать столько огрехов игры, которую пилили 4 года, хотя команда чуть ли не каждую неделю выкладывала дневник как продвигается работа. Я может пойму что команда пытается еще сбалансировать игру, но из-за этого они не уследили ни за тренировкой, ни за лобби. Конечно хочется чтобы добавили больше комбо и файтинговых фишек, например Break дабы отменить комбинацию противника за счет энергии.
Очень надеюсь что проект не забросят, ибо тут доделывать не только Story Mode.
