Camera movement is super annoying and there are many places that requires precise 3D platforming which is not convenient at all with the bad camera and some inconsistent controls (grappling hooks and air dash doesn't trigger consistently). But having said that, overall it's a cute, comedic and fun platforming game with tons of variety.

It has its fun moments, especially the new weapons are fun to use. However it really tests your patience times and times again with brutal and annoying difficulty, which at some times needs skill and some other times just needs luck!

The control is annoying as much as it's (partially) innovative. So I didn't like it that much and I'm not sure if I finish it. even though its length is less than two hours.

It was actually more fun than what I expected from the videos. But also when I saw 110 achievements I expected more replay value, which the game doesn't offer. I finished NG+ 5 and now I just don't wish to continue anymore.

it's not a bad game necessarily, but I won't recommend it to my friends and nor to you.
I believe you can skip this one.

I don't get the positive reviews, it's like we are playing 2 different games. The stealth gameplay is very boring and unpolished.

Here is the question: why do I play choice driven games? (such as Detroit, Life is strange, Wolf Among Us, etc.)
And the answer is quite simple: for the story!
And if the choices along the way are meaningful and result in different outcomes or ending then it is plus.

Unfortunately the story of House of Ashes (same as the other Supermassive games) is just a monster/slasher movie with a lineup of bland characters that you barely care about their survival as the player. And honestly this is a disaster for any game, let alone a game with the theme of survival.

But that is not the end of the shortcomings of House of Ashes. The main downfall of the game is that you know where the story is going to go from the start. So let me explain, in Until Dawn, you know that something is going to go horribly wrong and the characters are suppose to survive the night until dawn, as the name suggests! But you don't know what you are up against, so as you play, you figure out the set up, the lore and the dangers that linger around slowly and at the same time as the characters in the game.
On the other hand, in this game, they literally tell you what you are up against in the prologue, and then you have to wait for 2 hours for all the characters to find it out by themselves one by one.
A complete borefest!

I know that good writers don't grow on trees and I didn't expect to get a story as good as SOMA or Amnesia, or Wolf among us. But, at least I expected for the writers to understand that the simple and straightforward story of bunch of soldiers shooting monsters in a room and then go to the next room and kill more monsters, is not a good match for this genre at all!
Throughout the game, I felt like I'm in a world of a survival horror genre like Resident Evil, and instead of killing monsters with aiming at them, I'm doing it by QTE! (By the way the comparison with RE and other survival horrors is just over the theme. Otherwise comparing the shallow and cliche narration of House of Ashes to any of the Resident Evil or Dead Space games is a cardinal sin!!!)

Long story short, only play this game if you are an absolute die-hard fan of Supermassive games!

Poor man's Breath of the Wild!

Pros:
- Beautiful environments.
- Occasionally good level design (although mostly it's average and unremarkable)

Neutral:
- lame and cliche story.
- mediocre combat.

Cons:
- poor economy design, meaning: there are a lot of secret chests and collectibles around the map, but most of the loots are actually pretty useless.
- lackluster upgrades that don't feel powerful at all.

6.6/10 Meh! it's alright!
