Definitely more of a kid's game, but it's a pleasant time nonetheless.

What i liked most about Kamaeru was discovering its various biomes: while the premise starts off small (restoring your childhood wetlands' biodiversity), the game eventually opens up to a small but very diverse set of locations, all of which have unique NPCs and crafting stations to discover.

Sadly, and this is the game's biggest hurdle, this uniqueness is only ever on a surface level. The gameplay loop never changes: you gain money from planting flora and digging ponds, which you then spend on furniture to raise your reputation, which gives you access to more types of plants and pond shapes...

TL;DR: If you want:
  • A game that's easy to understand and play
  • A cutesy story with varied locations and characters
  • A comical amount of frogs to collect
And you don't mind
  • Shallow and repetitive gameplay and progression
  • Somewhat restrictive customization
  • A lack of voice acting
Then you'll likely enjoy beating Kamaeru's 5-hour campaign and you'll likely want to keep playing after that !
