The new "dice health" system combined with glitching etc. on top of the wackily punishing RNG ruins this game. I loved the first game, and the setting is awesome, but the new mechanics make me wish I had listened to my gut while I still had time to refund it.

I've been good friends with the owner of our FLGS for over a decade. I can say that this game is a super fun little peek into the world of running everyone's local hobby store.

It's EA. There are things yet to come on the roadmap, sure. I personally feel like it needs some balancing here and there, and as development continues, I'm sure that will occur. That said, jump over to Nexus! This little game already sports quite the little collection of mods, from pure QoL, to balancers, to bonk straight to jail silliness.

My verdict is thus, after only a few hours of playing: For the price (thirteenish clams at time of review), given the mods that already exist, even if no further development ever happened it's well worth the price of admission if you're already in the target audience. (Eg. you like these little niche life simulator games, quirky as they tend to be.)

So yeah. If you like these, and especially if you play TCGs, RPGs, board games, and have a favorite FLGS? Grab this with no worry that you won't get your money's worth. I got it during a Steam sale and feel bad! :D

So far, my Cyberpunk experience has been:

Several minutes fixing ♥♥♥♥♥♥ default settings. Woooow, you managed to scatter a billion useless settings across ten screens. Impressively convoluted.

Makey character. Yayfun. Start game.

Obligatory ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ plot opener, gotta help a buddy. Yup. so far so trope.

Next trope? BIG FIRST JOB GO BAD OH NO SETUP WHODA THUNKIT.

Copaganda coming out of the mouth of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ main character of a cyberpunk game within the first fifteen minutes? CHECK

The most predictable, bog standard, yawn inducing writing you could shove into three AAAs? BINGOBANGOBONGO

I sure hope something makes this game good eventually.

OH ♥♥♥♥. I almost forgot the most awesomest bestest most AAAAAAAA part of the game so far! I've been "playing" for like thirty minutes, and the amount of time I have been in control of my character? LESS THAN FIVE!
A. MAZING.
AAAAAAAA gaming

OMFG I'm watching a full length ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ movie starring my MAIN character and the other choad you meet. I just had to sit here watching my character do "cool fun ♥♥♥♥" without...me for like 10 minutes. God this is awful. I'm going to play this like I'm watching ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MST3K

There's not a single VA so far that sounds like they're having a conversation with another, present human being. Not the mains. Not the co-stars. Certainly not tertiary, drop ins, etc.

HEY GUYS, remember all of these mechanics? EH? In those games...you've...already...played a hundred times... BUT YOU REMEMBER THESE MECHANICS? Check it out look look look...you can sneak up...and totally stealth kill a dude!

Cyberpunk is a revolutionary AAAAAAAAAA RPG computer game. Everything they said it would be.
I think the last game I felt this personally offended by was The Last of Us. Garbage game.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LOL. My "street kid" character just you know, knows about an emergency trauma device and knows not only that the guy she's with has one in his pocket, but knows how to expertly apply it. Yeah yeah. plotplothandwave

DocWagon rescue scene? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sick. Somebody knows their Shadowrun.

God the pain continues. You finish the intro mission baby's first intro to shooting at the bad guys. You get in the car that THE NPC IS DRIVING, so you know, ♥♥♥♥ your player agency again. Already.

Then BANG. Out of "totally nowhere" other.....than a bad game hamfistedly introducing you to shooting from moving vehicles mechanics...you're randomly attacked by BAD GUYS IN VAN.

No explanation. No setup. No story. Just attacked.

So I shoot the baaaaaaaad guys, right? Think to myself, Jackie my main man is about to launch into a dope story about who those guys were and why they shot at us and it's totally going to matter....NOPE ♥♥♥♥ YOU AGAIN HAHAHAHAHAHA. Just keep riding in this car NOT PLAYING A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GAME SOME MORE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

The sheer. Unabashed. Amazing. Dripping. Lubed up. Fisting your mouth. IRONY of a CYBERPUNK genre game being this absolutely souless and corporate is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chef's kiss.

OHHHHHHHH we showed a NIPPLE. We're really pushing the envelope now!

Updated estimated counters:

Time the game has been running, loaded into RAM: like whatever, hour or so?
Time I've been playing a video game: Around 10 minutes.

Also, let me be clear. Platforming in a first person game is the cardinal sin of game mechanics.
But a close ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ second is turning dialog into a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. quick. time. event.

Dolly dress up available in-game. +1 goodgame

Okay. Like. Jokes aside for a sec. I just got my first level up go spend a point thing, right?

You mean to tell me that this is just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shooter? This whole. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Game is just a damn shooter wearing clothes it bought at gaming goodwill?

You've got to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidding me.
It's badDoom?
It's...justworseBorderlands?
♥♥♥♥'s sake. I knew they dropped the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ball but jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell this is bad (edited)

I'm having a moment. Like, it was a bad game, but I was enjoying taking the piss out of what I figured might eventually become a passable sort of first person ish crpgish you know ...literally anything they said that this game was.

And it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ linear story shooter.
Good thing the gunplay and combat have felt borrowed, sluggish, and tacked on, then!

Looking at the skill trees, it could not be more obvious that their approach to "player freedom, let you play it how you want" was just to make sure that every "choice" was fake and resulted in the same outcome.

Am I reading it right? We shall see!

OMG. Hovering over the "skill unlock perk tree wow such choices" and watching the little videos that show you what the skill does. CDPR reskinned Borderlands, but worse. And it's "revolutionary."

Ok, like eleventy jillion hours later, I THINK the game is letting me play the game now. I say this, because of sitting here watching video of the game playing itself, I left my apartment, immediately ignored the incoming phone call, shot a random person in the face, stood there while people ran away in programmed fear, then walked up on two cops yelling lines at an apartment door and shot them both to death with so far what appears to be no consequences. Maybe I can start choosing to do ...something now.

Good to know that some what, 20 years into your character having a cell phone full of contacts, we stilll can't be bothered to come up with anything better for when you just randomly call one of your contacts than............................nothing.

Fall damage, forcing me to use your ♥♥♥♥♥♥ level design to play guess the stair case to go...down.

Fut . the actual whuck?

It's 2077 in the cyber FUTER. But to "check my messages" I log into an in-game terminal in my apartment.

I hack ♥♥♥♥ wirelessly by looking at it. But email? HO HO HO TOOOOOOOO MUCH BOOO

MAN this game is bad

Ah, I am now enlightened.

"Deep immersive world" is code for "we had a bunch of uncredited, underpaid struggling voice actors record thousands of lines of throwaway slop dialog."

First time seeing weapons. This game wishes it was a love child between Mass Effect and Deus Ex. Instead, it disappoints whatever parents it can claim.

It is. It's literally just a looter shooter IP slop grab with triple a paint slapped across it.

Cyberpunk 2077.

Dog excrement of the year. Whichever Year. DotY.

SO MANY THRILLING ELEVATOR RIDES ALREADY SO MUCH PLAYER AGENCY WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

And yepconfirmedyep. Warmed over borrowed "open world driving" is ...there.

Also. I legit just had to check my graphics settings.

I got to looking at models and stuff in the "open world" and thinking maybe I had stuff turned down accidentally like defaults or something. Nope. I'm having to reacquaint myself with NVIDIA lingo, but it's pretty well cranked up and running smoothly in 4k.

These graphics are just...wildly unimpressive.

The writing in the FASA published Shadowrun novels of the like, 80s/90s? Wildly better than this game. And they were literally just fan fiction before bloggers started becoming authors.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gross. A whole side game where you can "help the cops do <good> by being able to scan people and see that they are <bad>." Do love me a good slave catcher simulator.

All I can take of this amazing AAAAAAAAAAA gaming experience today. Wheeeee

I love being out $25 because a game's true ridiculousness shows up after the two hour mark. Awesome.

Seriously, the game is super relaxing and fun and novel, and the fights are fun and not at all just a Souls style grind...until the boss of the "new player" campaign. Uber ultra mega boss that starts with twice as many monsters are you are allowed heroes and gets new ones spawned every round.

I'm glad some people think that's fun. My wallet thinks it's an annoying rip off to hide a massive spike in annoyance and difficulty after the two hour Steam refund mark.

Delightfully different. The setting, art, voice acting, soundscape, it's all brilliant. I love the "modern" take on classic gameplay of isometric RPG and P&C adventure game. The story was very enjoyable as well, with moments of triumph balanced by moments of poignancy, interspersed with some great humor. A total recommend from me!

Small caveats: I have to admit that I basically played with a walkthrough open, but it was only occasionally necessary and even then likely only because I am an impatient gamer that only barely tolerates "puzzles." I do think that with enough patience, and especially if you DO like puzzles, a walkthrough would be unnecessary. Most of the places I got "stuck" were less actual sticking points and more just me wanting to get on to the next thing because, again, impatient gamer. :)

If you're ready to suffer through horrible patches that have to almost immediately be rolled back or hotfixed, the game itself is pretty great. That said, be ready to wait absolute ages for content while the devs fiddle with stuff nobody was asking them to change.

It's unreal that this is a "unfinished" Early Access game, and yet is still so fun and satisfying to play. If you enjoy building and survival type games, but you aren't playing this one, I wonder after your sanity! :)
