During the events of Sonic Unleashed, the Ice Cream Vendor met Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip when they first arrived at Apotos. While working on the Sundae Supreme, he attracted the attention of Chip, who was drawn by the tasty treat. The Ice Cream Vendor explained to Chip that this ice cream was the pride of the city, and assured him that everyone would still line up for a taste, even if the world were to tumble down around them. As Chip grabbed out for a taste, the Ice Cream Vendor promised him guaranteed satisfaction, or a refund. He would afterwards express his certainty that his ice cream was the best in the world, and that he wanted everyone to taste his treats.
During the following nightfall however, the Ice Cream Vendor became possessed by Dark Gaia's Minions. Their influence causes the Ice Cream Vendor to go into a deep depression over the fact that the world had been split apart, and make him see no point in making ice cream in a doomed world. When Chip saw the Ice Cream Vendor like this, he tried to cheer him up, but to no avail, as the Ice Cream Vendor appeared impervious to words. Even after witnessing Sonic the Werehog's powers, he only continued to cry.

The Ice Cream Vendor continued this behavior for a while, shifting between his cheerful self and depressed self between day and night, causing many of the town's citizen to become worried, until Sonic and Chip returned and managed to exorcise him. As the Dark Gaia's Minions' grip was released from him, the Ice Cream Vendor wondered about what he was doing, as he said that he had to prepare ice cream for the world to enjoy and solemnly swore to keep making ice cream.
Some time later, the Ice Cream Vendor met Mufid, who had come to Apotos from Shamar when he had heard from Sonic that he knows how to make good ice cream. After the Ice Cream Vendor asked who Mufid is and learned that Mufid wanted to open his own ice cream shop and had come to learn from him, the Ice Cream Vendor laughed enthusiastically and promises that he would teach him and began showing Mufid several things, such as how make good flavored ice cream, how to keep it at the right temperature and how to make the ice cream soft and smooth.
