The doughnut rolls on but for how much longer? Another doughnut hole in the heart of America and it might be done for.
In the future I see doughnut crumbling to Pan Dulce, a Mexican snack with the greatness of America glazed away.
In the 50s there were many friendly doughnut stores with proud names like Tom’s doughnuts or Jim’s doughnuts. You would go in an order a dozen and they would throw in a 13th for tradition. The bakers dozens. As they retired and their children (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boomers) did not kneed the dough they sold their doughnut stores to a new breed, the Asians.
Wanting the American dream they renamed Tom’s and Jim’s to “Star doughnuts” or “Ace doughnuts”. They did not understand tradition and the idea of a free 13th doughnut disappeared completely. We went from a high trust society to a low doughnut society. America stood on as the doughnut foundation crumbled.
