I am a week one player who pre-ordered, and it’s taken me this long to review the game because it has changed so much and there was a lot to say! I had a review written out in August 2016 but never posted it. So here is my review now.

We wouldn’t have been ready for the game as it is today back when it was first released!
At the time the dream that was shown in the original three minute trailer (which actually brought tears to my eyes and still gives me goosebumps today!) wasn’t quite what we got at the time, but just look at it now!

This game is pure exploration. There are countless star systems, you can go wherever you want with no boundaries or invisible walls, stepping where no one has before, discovering planets, moons, creatures and flora, and even putting your name to them forever. I am able to fly my ship where I like, and spend as much time as I want walking around a planet, actually exploring and adventuring the way I want to at my own pace without rushing or being forced in one direction. The planets are varied and beautiful, the creatures are unique, the atmosphere exciting and daunting at the same time. The game has always been like this.

The customisation is incredible too, you can upgrade your suit, multitool and ships however you want in any order. The variety of ships and weapons is astounding, and it's a lot of fun finding the perfect looking one for your collection. All of this has also always been possible in the game.

The type of creatures you can find has changed drastically over the years, the flying and ground dwelling ones, the crystal encrusted beasts and giant beetles, and everything in between. And best of all, you can tame most of them as pets!

The music and sound effects in the game have also always been incredible and engaging.

I have taken thousands and thousands of screenshots over the years. I have enjoyed the game since release, despite missing features (which are now all here!) and some bugs and resets (which HG always works to fix and improve!) and I continue to come back to the game and play everything it has to offer. Multiplayer is on another level now, seeing people’s builds and discoveries, and each new update is more expansive and amazing than the last.

Thank you Sean Murray and Hello Games for all the work and perseverance over these last 6 years.

I was looking forward to this game for a long time and it was worth the wait. The story, gameplay, and environments are absolutely mesmerising. The story is as intriguing as Dear Esther, it pulls you in from the start. It is very emotional, caused a few tears several times! Gameplay is very fluid. The exploration, collecting/secrets is very reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus, and the collection of the plants specifically reminds me of Meadow. The environments are beautiful and on level with the aforementioned SotC, in their size and beauty. Great voice acting and overall art style!

Only thing I would say in terms of issues that could be improved: The free fall respawn is a little too short, it would be nicer to be able to fall in your wolf form a little longer before being reset. This was particularly frustrating when traversing the islands and walkways when you had no birds nearby to jump to.
Lastly, an ability to move the camera from the very far over shoulder view, let us customise its position a little.

Overall, a beautiful game which I will put a lot more hours into soon to get 100% achievements eventually!

This game is simply amazing. Beautifully and lovingly crafted, every part of the game has a wonderful charm, from the environment to the characters. It is a very peaceful game, you are not running around killing things, or trying to survive some terrible danger. Eastshade reminds me of Myst, and has an aesthetic similar to Dear Esther, which is a great combination!

Gameplay wise, you can play quite fluidly, you can find “upgrades” that help you on your journey, and you can do them in different orders as well. Plenty of fun and challenging achievements to acquire. There’s also plenty of opportunity to take wonderful screenshots, and the world is very engaging when you explore it. Time actually passes which is great, you often see your journal update quests with things like “check back on that person in a day or so”, and it will update when that time has passed, reminding you to go back to further the progress.

The voice acting is great, I recognise quite a few of them! The characters you find are all interesting and quirky in their own ways. You are encouraged to listen to them and find out how to help them, none of which is boring or feels like a chore. You can pick this game up whenever you left if off, it's very relaxing and easy to slip back into.

I have played through it once, doing everything available, and am halfway through my second play through in order to get the last two achievements I missed, one due to a mistake, one due to a bug. Which brings me to the dev, who fixes things incredibly quickly!

I highly recommend this game!

Edit: I fully completed all achievements now, and the second playthrough was just as fun! Still highly recommend this game!

Edit2: Nominated for Outstanding Visual Style! 2019

Love it! Loads of options; they all work nicely with the accessories that are already in the game. I love customising my truck, its the same one I've had in my 300+ hours of playing the game. The new bars also add more light options that work with the default ones too. All the assets seem to be of very great quality, and I love the new neon light options, my truck looks amazing at night. Worth it if you love customisation! Also worth it if you are a Scania fan!

This DLC is well worth the money. It adds 18.2% to the world map (in terms of drivable roads, added onto a map which also includes Going East DLC) The scenery is very beautiful, SCS have used all the best parts of the main world environment and have improved on it. The new trees, terrain, trailers, companies, drop off and pick up points are all great features of the DLC. It also includes 8 new achievements for you to work on, of varying difficulty.

There are more challenging roads and job locations to drive through. Lots of new ports have been added also. There are beautiful mountain ranges, lakes and seasides to drive past. Many hours of extra gameplay is added. There is also the Scania Head Quarters added in game, where you can transport Scania trucks from directly to dealers. It also includes many new types of road layouts, and some cool looking tunnels through different mountains, as well as huge suspension bridges. There are so many great screenshot opportunities and viewpoints, which I've been collecting along the way as I've been exploring the new areas.

I'd highly recommend giving Scandinavia DLC a go.

Also, at the time of this review, it includes the Viking Legends skin pack, with some very nice airbrush designs to try on your trucks!

Edit: I have over 298 hours on ETS2, and about 3 hours on the DLC at present.

Euro Truck Simulator 2; its often difficult to explain to people what makes this game so immersive and fun to play. You can easily put hours into this game and never realise. After putting 162 hours into the game myself, I figured I should leave a review!

Basically, this game gives you the freedom to travel the roads of Europe, driving any truck you desire, completing jobs from Aberdeen in Scotland to Lublin in Poland and everything in between. The trucks are fully customisable, and there is also a level up system, allowing for longer distance jobs, eco driving, more important cargo and better trucks unlocked.

You may purchase your own garages in the cities you visit across Europe, and hire drivers to work for your company. The more you earn, the more upgrades you can do to your garages and the more trucks you can buy as well.

The devs at SCS are excellent and come out with great updates and DLCs. Also, if you're a modder, this game has a great modding community and awesome scope for mods of all kinds.

It is a great simulation game, if you have a wheel and pedals to use, the experience is even better. But you can also use a normal gamepad if you desire rather than keyboard, it is up to you how you play. The trucks drive like they should do, you can feel the weight of the trailers you pick up.

One of the things I love most about this game is the environment. SCS have done a great job with creating the world of ETS2, and each country has a slightly different feel. I love driving through the Austrian mountains as well as the countryside in the UK. The weather and lighting is also brilliantly done.

I have owned ETS2 since February 2013, and I still enjoy playing. I highly recommend this game!

Fast paced, exciting, reflex-testing game. Loved it from the moment I bought it. The music matches the feel of the game, and the constant changes in the worlds and regions keep you guessing and the game exciting. Ship upgrades are great and you can choose the ones you prefer for your style of play. The world creator is intuitive and easy to get the hang of. Highly recommended!
