I've had fun with New World, but I can't really recommend it in it's current state. It needed another few months in testing, there's just far too many bugs that ruin key aspects of the game. Often when these bugs offer advantage to players, such as an exploit, the knee-jerk response by AGS is to turn off the system completely, as has been the case for several methods of gathering materials or the ability to trade furniture items, or disabling the player-run economy entirely for days. Currently there's as many problems from the result of them trying to fix stuff as there were prior.

Recently for example, my company and I spent a combined 30~ hours grinding faction pvp missions to throw a territory into conflict, and then war, one of New World's most important features. We're part of the underdogs of the server faction-wise, and it was important to us to make this comeback. Issue is, bugs caused our time to be completely wasted. We worked with another company, who also spent 30~ hours, to bring the influence from 18% to 100% that day, yet once it was in conflict, we were unable to declare war because neither company contributed at least 10% according to the game.

This has been being reported by many people on the forums and is a major detriment to what should be one of their most important systems, but time is rather spent on things like adding beetles or vikings as enemies rather than time spent fixing what has the potential to be a good game. Until it's polished more, developers get more in touch with the player base, and the game improves, it's difficult for me to recommend.

Early Access Review
I'm not too sure for what reasons the ratings are as bad as they are. Perhaps prior to me getting the game a few days ago, it wasn't in the state it is now, that's the only reason I can think of. Citadel is a great game and I have a minimal amount of complaints.

Pros: The map is expansive and every bit is interesting.
Rather than losing everything when you die, you keep all the things that you have equipped.
Building is very easy, though some controls for rotation would make it easier.
A very pretty game visually.
The soundtrack is long and soothing enough that I never feel like "Ugh, listening to this again."
The high fantasy setting is, to my knowledge, unique to Citadel when it comes to these sorts of survival games.

Cons: The AI could use some work. I encounter quite a few times when the AI either chases me across the map, or I jump on top of a rock and now they'll never be able to touch me.
It's easy to get stuck in a group of rocks. If you don't have a broom or a mount near you, you're going to be forced to hit that respawn button.
It could be optimized better. I run the game on medium-low settings since I dn't have the best of the ebst computers, but there are many times I still have trouble breaching 30 fps. The game still seems smooth and all and I could probably lower the graphics for better performance, but it's such a good looking game, I'd rather not.
Low amount of players. This is my biggest issue with the game. There's not many people that play, meaning most of your interaction in the game will either be with friends that you play with, or no one at all. This will probably be addressed better once the game leaves early access, but for now it leaves some to be desired. I had never even heard of this game before a friend purchased it for me, and in my opinion it's definitely a game worth being heard.

Overall, I would recommend this game, but not necessarily right now. If you're satisfied with how the game is now, which I personally am, then it's a good purchase that will earn you plenty of fun time, but having friends that play it can make it even more so. The reason I might not necessarily recommend it right now is the lack of players. I know, telling people not to play because there's not many players isn't a good way to solve that problem, but if you're wanting to play because you like the idea of servers full of 50 people playing, you're going to be disappointed at this point in time. If you're fine with not playing with so many people, go for it! The more people that get this game the better!
