It's probably just me, but I hate (HAAAAAATE) timed puzzles. I wouldn't mind the puzzles in Cogs—they're simple and challenging and satisfying to solve—but when you time it, it takes ALL the fun out of it for me and it's just an anxiety trip. Although I loved the mode where you have to solve the puzzles with a turn limit and no time limit, you have to unlock them first, so that was frustrating.

However I must mention that the sound design for this game is really, really well-done. It makes the whole thing feel very snappy and responsive.

To add to this, yes the time aspect is (sort of) optional. The game unlocks levels on a star rating system. When you beat a level, you earn 3-10 stars for doing so: 3 automatically for beating the level, 1-3 for the number of moves used, 1-3 for the time spent on the level, and 1 additional star if you manage to get the top tier simultaneously in moves and time.

Each level seems to unlock after 5 more stars than the previous level, which means that if you wish to play at your own pace, you will find that you need to average silver medal tier moves in order to progress. This could foreseeably be a problem, especially in later levels.

I personally find the timed aspect quite exhilarating. The times are quite forgiving, but just challenging enough to motivate you to beat them.

You can waste as much time as you want as long as you have solved the puzzle it continues

Glad you mentioned the timed puzzle thing. I hate that too, so you saved me the effort of purchasing the game and likely requesting a refund.
