Having played Frontier: Elite II since I was rather little, getting to play Elite Dangerous is an amazing and familiar experience.

The best thing about the gameplay is freedom: As it utilises procedurally-generated environments (as well as predefined ones), it has basically limitless potential with regard to exploration. Of course, a lot of it does become all the same once you've played the game for a while.

The game has amazing visuals, and my system seems to run it just fine at higher graphics settings. This wasn't initially the case with Odyssey, but the developers have done a decent job as of writing.

Frontier releases paid expansions for this game, but I personally do not mind this monitisation model. They do bring something new to the table, and so far these expansions have ended up in the base game for free at some point anyways. For me they justify the cost.
