TL;DR : The story is interesting, something you would expect from CDPR. Except for that, it's pretty mediocre in all levels (gameplay wise).

The witcher 2 saw huge improvement compared to the first installment of the game; upgraded graphics, you can meditate whenever and wherever you want, dialogue decisions matter more....... and ..... I thinks that's it.
Now to the downsides of the game, which are a lot.
I completed the game in dark mode, and I can clearly say that combat in this game is utter garbage. The sign cast animation nullifies your reflexes. Back-stab damage can one shot you. I don't know who set the hit-boxes in this game but he clearly did a poor job, you take hits even though you dodged and escaped, so you always have to keep a safe distance when fighting, cause the dodge is not a complete invulnerability.
Pebbles can block Geralt's advancement and deny rolls, so even if you see an empty space you can escape to when in a pinch, don't get your hopes up, a rock on the path may think otherwise.
Acquiring armor sets and such can be a tedious and annoying task because of the huge sums of money you have to collect in order to buy the patterns, buy or craft the missing ingredients you need and paying the absurd commission to craft an item.
Acquiring money in this game is quite delicate, since merchants won't pay good prices for your goods and will tore apart your pocket and suck you money dry when you try to buy something. The most effective method I found is arm wrestling.
Now that you have the armor set, every time you fight with a life-steal weapon, the game will put a black filter on the screen. Why ? I have no idea.
I won't rant about the quests/journal system, I did worse (*wink* *wink* morrowind players ;) ), but what I can say is that the game won't show you quests locations, so you have to talk to every NPC you encounter.
Traveling in this game is slow.

My recommendation would be to avoid dark mode, play on normal difficulty or less and just enjoy the main story.
