The last great version of the game that I enjoyed. Awesome soundtrack.

Early Access Review
A very polished (even if still in Early Access) conversion and enhancement of the Fabled Lands solo roleplaying gamebooks by Dave Morris and Jamie Thomson. The gameplay is fully digitized: character record keeping, rolling dice, item management, movement and encounters in locations all over Sokara (book 1) and Nerech (book 4).

The graphics and the sound are superb. They can add enjoyment to exploring Sokara and Nerech just to see how book monsters and the locations are fleshed out. Gameplay-wise, it is very faithful to the books. Combat is more nuanced and tactical, making it more engaging than say, several rounds of die rolling.

A fun 10+ hours. Very much worth my money, even at this early access stage. It can only get better as more lands (books) are added.

Tip: Read the accompanying text, before and after encounters as it may be easy to miss out on rewards or quest item(s).

Very challenging and interesting take on the Squad-Turn-Based tactical genre. You will have to make simple but far-reaching decisions during missions that will either be a boon or eventually advance the necron awakening timer. There are RPG elements in the sense that your Technopriests' augmentations and skills can be upgraded as they increase in rank and accumulation of blackstone.

The only downside are the occasional "clunkiness" of the mouse when trying to adjust the view of the battlefield.

Highly recommended.

Xcom on a smaller (more local, urban-settings) scale. Battles can have 1-3 encounters. Difficulty ramps quickly up every time a faction is fully investigated or taken out. A welcome and challenging refresh of the Xcom-Tactical battlescape. The "geoscape" or Headquarters section of the game is more streamlined, i.e. less micromanagement. Maintaining low unrest levels is challenging and will likely influence your choice of missions to undertake/ignore.

ps.

some missions are buggy AF. Missing extraction point and next encounters are sometimes not triggered at all.

Missions increase in difficulty as reputation grows. This increases the challenge. Lots of side missions available once you are able to travel between star systems (?). You should always customize/refit your mechs as the stock configuration is often heat-inefficient. Go for precision shots to center torso as soon as you are able.

Fighting system is easy to get into. User-creations are playable in various game modes (versus, arcade, multiplayer). Deluxe edition is a bit expensive but otherwise, the product really feels like a AAA game.

Gameplay is easy to pickup and the game provides a challenge even on Easy level. Pixel Art topnotch for me. Quite fun.
