hunting and bug catching are seriously unfun. the inventory fills up so quickly that you're constantly interrupted to address it. the insane time it takes to process raw materials is on par with a predatory mobile game. It feels like the game just doesn't want you to play it, so I won't.

This is a difficult game to review because you can't properly criticize it without spoiling important aspects of the game. What I will say is that this game is NOT simply a rogue-like card game. There is a definitive plot and ending, and it comes sooner than maybe you'd feel satisfied with if you were hoping for the endless rogue-like experience.
The upgrade systems and marriage of multiple card and deck mechanics are fun, but maybe not fully realized with the game being so limited by its plot focus. The player is often rewarded for finding ways to cheese encounters since the enemies do not follow the same rules. This can lead to some hilariously overpowered cards in the player's possession, but the novelty can wear off quickly when you realize you basically stopped "playing" the card game at some point in favor of, for example, leaning on Ouroboros at every opportunity.

That said, it's still a great game despite not exactly being the experience I was hoping for. The developers made what amounts to a love letter to various card game systems with a creepy plot and atmosphere that leans into meta elements. Not surprising from the creators of Pony Island. Highly recommend.

Kingdom: New Lands essentially improves on everything that the Classic game had to offer. Islands give the game a sense of progression and replayability within the same playthrough as you start over with each new voyage. Some units will join you on your voyage, including knights if you pay them, but each island becomes progressively more difficult so it becomes a necessary mechanic to avoid getting swarmed by the Greed for most players.

Some criticisms I would give the game are that some random spawns have very niche uses and can potentially deny you more useful island spawns. If you're interested in the variety, this might seem like a positive, but lacking an archer statue on later islands for example feels helpless. Towers still feel more harmful than helpful in this version of the game.

The weakest game of the trilogy, but still a fantastic experience and good introduction to the franchise. Highly highly highly recommend all three DR games.

I didn't take the warning at the beginning seriously. Take it seriously.

PSA: Got this game for free from a friend.

I'm not going to sugarcoat this review talking about what the game manages to do well. Watch any twitch stream or youtube video and you can see that the game only aims to succeed at its most core elements, which is 1 killer, 4 survivors, 5 generators, try to escape. Despite the lack of variety, it's very fun.

The matchmaking, however, is terrible and ruins an otherwise really fun game. Not only will the game not automatically put me back into queue after it "fails to find a lobby" 2 seconds after I click to join, but it will also not put me back into queue when a lobby falls out or a lobby couldn't be found(note this is a different error than failing to find a lobby). I have to keep reclicking Join after anywhere from 2 to 200 seconds of sitting there waiting. And 75% of the lobbies I find fall apart. 90% of the games I played my first day just dropped randomly before we could finish. I guess the killer left the game. I don't know.
And there's bots/point farmers too. It's really obnoxious. I can't sit down and enjoy myself when I wait 5-10minutes queueing for this game only to feel unsatisfied when my games stop short or the game just ends up being really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for me for any number of reasons. Hard to justify dumping my time and patience into this. If the matchmaking weren't bad, I can put up with the occasional game where I get chased down by the killer from the get-go and nobody comes to save me, so I die in like a minute or two(I'm not very good yet). It's part of the game. Whatever. But that's a risk I have to consider every time I invest my time into trying to find any game at all.

I will recommend it because if you play with friends and not by yourself, I imagine it's still worth playing and I will probably end up doing that instead of trying to play solo, but I'm also hopeful that it will be worth playing in the future once these issues are fixed.

Early Access Review
I have a serious aversion to buying Early-Access games, but I do make very occasional exceptions. This game is one such exception. The only way I can even hope to compare it to something a decent number of people might understand would be "Tekkit Minecraft with old Command n Conquer graphics except way, way better." Seriously, this game is so much fun and is already worth the price-point for the hours you're going to invest. I'm looking forward to how they plan on balancing a lot of the content because there are definitely problems in its current state, but it's still a good pick-up if you already like what you see and want to support the game's development.

Playing Dark Souls 3 made me realize how much I missed this game. Everything was better in Dark Souls. Gwynevere was still an illusion, not a statue, Priscilla still soft-locks the game with her sensual moaning. The Fair Lady is as lovely and bangable as ever with her long, slender spider legs. Sure, the price of Dark Souls is greater when you consider all the tissues and lotion you'll be investing in for your various playthroughs, but it's still worth it for sure. 10/10 GOTY
