Undeniably charming remaster of a vintage 1995 FPS. The massive, interconnected environments are incredibly ambitious for the time, though they can get to be a bit of a drag if you just so happen to miss a switch or a key item tucked away in some corner... leads to either aimless backtracking or having to check a guide. Neither is much fun.

Pretty solid love letter to Condemned, with 95% of the investigative/story elements excised in favor of sheer focus on bloody struggles with deranged men in filthy hovels. A few issues here and there (like enemies being able to attack you through doors/stairs) but ultimately nothing substantial enough to diminish the experience.

On the one hand, damn was this an acutely depressing and harrowing psychological horror trip (albeit w/a few segments that drag on some).

On the other hand, damn if I'm not morbidly curious enough to want to try out Dragonbreath for myself...

(Relatively) easy-going survival horror packed with charm & humor, complete with cute FF7-esque visuals & perspective. Somewhat fiddly combat & a few puzzles (the Mush Room...) brought things down for me some, but they also helped to make this feel more 'authentic' in terms of what it's going for (if that makes any sense).

Good stuff!

Fittingly (given Nitro+'s reputation) hostile deconstruction of dating sims that initially lures one in w/expected tools & tropes before violently weaponizing them against the player.

Pretty certain I'm Miyukilocked in at this point and might just leave it like that.

What if When They Cry but eSports-powered post-apocalyptic steampunk?

Fantastic, depressing read. Ideally I'll see a continuation within my lifespan.

An atmospheric, stylish platformer. It successfully manages to create an environment that FEELS hostile to the player in all of the right ways. It becomes a weaker game later on where the focus shifts more towards puzzle-related trial and error as opposed to atmosphere but it's still worth playing through, just to see where the game takes you.

Left 4 Dead, boiled down and condensed into a much more straightforward and intense experience. Cheap price, lots of fun when played with others, and tons of characters, classes, weapons, and levels to play with. Totally worth it!

Subtly disturbing art style, minimal but effective sound design, and a different sort of take on the usual platformer. Heavily recommended for somebody who wants something a little different!

Frictional's best game, easily trumping the Penumbra series (which is no mean feat). Takes the darkness that merely served as an annoyance before and makes it both a source of refuge as well as a danger to your continued sanity - hide from the monster as it approaches and risk going mad, or run out into the light and be forced to flee?

One of the best games of 2010.
