Around 2003 - 2006, this game was epic. The map community was very active, producing a lot of interesting mechanics, hiding spots, and all around fun campaigns. CAL league was at its height, and this game (along with Counter Strike) were at their peak for competition and overall fun.

Currently, the servers are mostly filled with bots, people ahead of the VAC ban game, or old players who are still on old computers.

When DoD: Source came out, many players took this as a cue to look elsewhere. It wasn't that everyone went to Source, it was that it dawned on them that there were other alternatives (DoD:Source, CoD, MoH, Battlefield, even World of Warcraft).

I recommend this game if you're interested in map creation due to many interestingly laid out maps, strategic placement of architecture and models, game mechanics to win, and ability to create teamwork among groups of 8, 12, or more strangers.
