i did not buy this game

I'll review this game again when I finish it for the first time but damn, these first 18 hours spent have been absolutely incredible. Not a second went by when I wasn't enthralled in the world, this game is just amazing in every way.
Elden Ring is the culmination of every previous FromSoftware game and it shows, what a fantastic experience so far.

worth it

TLDR: Fantastic game if you are a fan of Metroidvanias.

Great Metrovania style game with fair difficulty that gave me a good challenge at several points, but never felt unfair. Hauntingly beautiful artwork and the piano based soundtrack really help sell the somber tone of the game's world. You discover the story through small moments of dialogue, hidden notes and cut-scenes succeeding each boss fight. Following the story is definitely not crucial in order to get enjoyment out of this game, but for me, it helped me get attached to the characters. If all of that isn't important to you, the gameplay itself is great, the different abilities you collect throughout the game feel great to use. Each area and their respective bosses all felt great to play-through / fight. Backtracking was actually exciting for me, as every time I gained a new exploration tool I could search around the places I couldn't previously go, and everytime I'd get something new.

This game is unlike anything I've played before, and for as short as it is, I enjoyed every second of it. I first learned about this game through one of the Dev Logs that had been posted on TikTok, and it's violent bio-punk theme immediately caught my eye.

The game has simple mechanics that I think are executed well, and feel very good to play with.
The organ harvesting and swapping system is super cool, and the combat is fast paced and exciting.
The side quests and lore bits scattered around NPC's and such, kept me interested in the unique world the game is set in.
Without spoiling anything, the final area was probably my favorite, despite being a surprising change of pace from the rest of the game, it was super immersive and left me wanting more.

All in all, my only complaint with the game is that it isn't longer!
It took me just over 3 hours to complete a play-through, making sure to do all the side quests. Although I'll definitely be playing more to get the other two endings.
I still have so many questions regarding the games world, and I would love to see those answered in something like DLC, or a sequel.
