goalkeeping in Rematch is like front row tickets to a BBC nature documentary
genuinely feels like watching U11s football sometimes. entire lobby chasing the ball; nobody understanding what a 'pass' is, and certainly not passing the ball to the guy who's stood in more space than the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sun. on the occasion a shot is taken, it's straight at you, too.

we haven't seen characters this well written and lovable since Ugg Throkk released Death and Jesters in 12,054 B.C., but that got lost to time and DELTARUNE is happening RIGHT NOW (and it still has a cool jester character) so humanity is currently winning

This game has a reputation; I thought it was gonna be so sick I'd have no choice but to blow my brains out with two shotguns at once after I had finished it because nothing could ever be so perfect again.

...I dunno, it's just not that good??? The enemy placements have a lot of obnoxious gotchas, the levels are somewhat maze-like and not in the good fun Quake-y way, the game TRIES to be scary sometimes and fails badly because it never takes your enormous shotgun away from you; it's FINE. This game is FINE. It has strengths... I mean the movement is nice, and it's aesthetically good. I liked the bosses a lot, although they never had quite enough health. But it just didn't click much with me. It wasn't challenging enough (I played on the second highest difficulty, the hardest ensures getting hit at all instantly kills you, which given the game's aforementioned penchant for gotchas...), and it's ideas weren't compelling enough.

I wish Steam would let me give a neutral review. It's not BAD per se, it's just a bit mid. A 5.5/10. Maybe. Certainly not 97% positive raving reviews.

In my opinion, the best game ever made by a MARGIN. I don't think anything I could write here would actually do this masterpiece justice. Easily worth full price; stupidly worth it on sale.

I have never enjoyed mismanaging a potion shop more.

Rivals of Aether: Has Kragg.
Other platform fighters: Does not have Kragg.

I will not elaborate.

Right, ok, hijacking my original joke review while it's still very visible on the store page:
please, please, please do not listen to other reviews talking about how nobody cares about the base game and that the workshop is the only thing that is relevant. The base cast are amazingly balanced and all have remarkable depth! If you only play around with the workshop you're missing out on a whole GAME here. Even the shallowest Rivals character has as much depth as the most complex Smash Ultimate character... I *promise* I'm not lying. If you have any interest at all in competitive platform fighting, then I implore you to try this game. It is a monolithic achievement in game feel and game balance. You will love it.
