EDIT: As of May 6th 2024, Sony has officially stated that they will NOT be going forward with the PSN update. I will be changing my review back to a positive one, as that was the main issue, and the game itself is an incredible game.

We did it, Helldivers. Let's get back to the front.

I really wanted to play this more. I really did. But because of the new policy updates, and because my last account was with my father (and it seems that playstation over here in spain doesn't care, so before you say "just reset your password, hurr durr", it gives me an unknown error every time I've tried, and I haven't been able to do anything about it for YEARS now) who passed away a few years ago [so with him went the password], I will no longer be able to play helldivers 2.

If I try to move from Spain's website to the UK Sony website via VPN, it asks me for face or ID recognition when making a new account.

If I use a VPN for a country that doesn't ask for that, I can potentially be banned (like a lot of people have been reporting, they've been insta-banned for using VPN's).

And if I even MANAGE to get my password from my account and link it, what? now do I have to fear that some toxic clown that loves to spam reports can potentially get my entire PSN account banned so I won't be able to play my old ps3 games online either, on the last console that still works with that account? Just because I accidentally TK'd him and he got mad, or because I picked up his samples (because people STILL do not know all samples are shared)?

This is a clown fest. If you have a PS5, buy the game there. If you do not, then do not buy this game at all. If you have less than two hours in the game and bought it recently, refund it, because soon you will not be able to play the game unless you agree to make an account (NOT a burner, mind you, again) on a service (Playstation Network) that is literally KNOWN for data breaches and service outages. [Hey, wow, now people won't only complain about steam maintenance, now whenever PSN goes down due to a backdoor or a data breach or maintenance you won't be able to play on PC either!]

Embarrassing move.

My best friend gifted me this game when it came out. And, honestly...

It's great. It's amazing. It's SONIC. There's amazing highs, epic moments, the BEST soundtrack I have ever heard for boss battles, rivaling Sonic Unleashed, SA2, Sonic 06... And it signals the return of the blue blur to the limelight.

Of course, this is not to say the game is perfect-- There's some jank, some bugs here and there, though in my personal experience, it only was very specific ones like cyberspace physics getting janky sometimes and some camera issues, but nothing glaring that ruined my experience or even got me mad. Genuinely, the most "annoying" thing I felt from this game is the fact that the third island (without spoiling, it's the third one in the list) is a bit tedious to get through map-clearing wise because each little island needs you to go somewhere specific, to use a grind rail, and then go from that island to the other, to then get on another rail / 2D section to another... But, genuinely, once you get the hang of that, you remember exactly where to go, and with the max ring speed boost PLUS the fact that you can usually do a cycloop in an 8-shape to get an infinite boost gauge for a good while, everything passes by you incredibly fast.

Then the Super Sonic battles. I won't spoil, but they're basically your normal boss battles but turned up to a trillion. It was HONESTLY the best Super Sonic's ever felt, because in previous games the super form simply felt like a "boost forward to hit enemy" simulator, only slightly deviating in some aspects with spin-offs such as Rush Adventure's deflect mechanic, or Advance 3's "Launch Eggman into the enemy" mechanic. It feels like you're actually controlling a super-powered being of destruction, and seeing how you go from being a scaredy rat around the big mean titans to absolutely BULLYING them not only feels incredibly satisfying, but even made me feel a bit bad for them with how easily Super Sonic was obliterating them, lol.

I think, in my opinion, the only thing I might have a slight "complaint" over is the final boss. I will NOT spoil, but all I'll say is that you need to have to set your game on HARD (either by starting it on hard, or by setting it on hard at the end of the last island) to get actual GAMEPLAY out of the boss, or else it'll be a 3 QTE section and then the cutscene plays. Though, even so, if you set it on hard, you...

Well, all I'll say is that, in my opinion, it's a bit undewhelming. It DOES NOT take away from the rest of the game, mind you, as you still have the amazing interactions, the songs, everything before, but this one is just... Trust me, when I finished it and got the cutscene, I honestly was expecting a "secret" final phase to pop up. For fans of a certain Shrine Maiden's games this might end up being the best fight known to mankind, though, so maybe the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I can't complain, though, (again, no spoiling), since with how the boss dialogue went, and the scenes before it and AFTER it, I can already smell from a mile away that if this game does well, SEGA is going all in on creating a sequel.

Sequel with Shadow as the protagonist when, SEGA? He needs some character redemption too. C'mon.

9/10. If you're a sonic fan, or want to feel what Sonic is again, or like more serious stories with looming dark (yet incredibly well handled and genuinely non-edgy) undertones, this is the game for you.

If you're still iffy on the price tag, WAIT! Who knows, maybe once this game goes on sale, the bugs will be fixed, Quality of Life patches will happen, and it'll be an even better title worthy of a 10/10. Maybe some cool mods will be released too, like swapping Sonic with Shadow or Blaze, who knows!

I love this game.

No longer "epic", as per my review. It got deleted because I changed my review to negative, so here I'm writing a new, shorter one.

The game sucks. You can't play casual anymore, which is the dedicated matchmaking gamemode to play the stupid MAIN MODE and APPEAL of the game. You're forced to either hunt communities for the community servers that actually care about the players, or stick to MvM, the PVE mode.

And yet, Valve doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥. They continue making cosmetics and crates and warpaints (some even made by the community) to make absolute bank off of this game, all the while the rampant issues make it so you can't even play the game anymore. Oh, and just to show how little they care, while all of this is happening, they're making a new overwatch clone called Deadlock, which, guess what, might as well get swarmed with cheaters and bots week one, but Valve won't care, will they? They don't care about their BIGGEST moneymakers (tf2 / dota / etc), so why would they about their next game they release?

#FixTF2. #SaveTF2.
