Great addictive game to kill time in, and you can spend hours and hours just customizing your character. Outstanding visuals for an MMO, and the sci fi and action aspects set it apart. It feels like the combat speed and depth of Devil May Cry (if you play as bouncer like me) with the loot/random element of Diablo, with the sort of party assembly and mission structure of Monster Hunter. One of the best free-to-play games out there, easily. Lots of fun distinct classes, and unlike other MMOs you can focus on leveling up at a brisk pace without tediousness. Loot and leveling up are what you're really here for, and the developers know full well! This comes across in all the game's design. I mean, you can pretty much completely ignore the story and do nothing but raw constant gameplay! Large variety of pretty environments to explore right off the bat, lots of freedom in character progression, and it's got a skill tree system, along with actual value in your money and items, which gives it a nice old school feel.

Also, if you're like me and compulsively check out other people's characters, the Lookbook is kind of an amazing feature... more MMOs should have this. Another huge unique appeal of the game are the CONCERTS! It has to be seen to be believed. There are also urgent missions which are timed events across the whole server that tend to offer totally unique gameplay or are otherwise a very exciting boss encounter. I guess you can consider these the game's raids, they are very fun and always have a nice big loot bomb at the end. Because the game's been out for ages in Japan, new content has been coming to this version at record speeds. With this unique circumstance, I don't think I've ever seen an MMO be able to add new content and updates THIS fast.

The menus are super freaking snappy (which I always love in a game), but I wish things were organized a little differently or a little more customizable. Too many repeated button taps because of having to reopen menus over and over unnecessarily. Some things seem to be changeable only in terms of presets. The main thing about the game that will stick in your craw is the non-paid inventory is only 50 at a time, and 10 to 20 of those will always be used by what you're carrying. Definitely gives incentive to subscribe or check out that Sonic collaboration pack if you want much comfier inventory management.

Give the game a shot if you want a different kind of MMO that gets right into nonstop fun action gameplay that gives you a ton of control over the pace you want to go with it. Already even more stoked for New Genesis since this game is pretty much crack cocaine as it is!

In terms of the story:
It's pretty much just a cutscene viewer where some characters will talk for a minute or two Very short and snappy, easy to do a whole bunch back to back, easy to start and stop any moment. Quite modular with how small each chunk of plot beats are. Definitely not long-winded at all, and I know there is an instinct in MMOs to speed through the text. It's a pretty barebones way to tell the story (no quest treks) and each story arc goes by quite fast for MMO standards. Perhaps TOO fast to get properly endeared to the characters and for the scenes to have the impact they were going for, but I still did get attached to the characters over time. You'll definitely have your favorites, and you can have them join you in missions as NPC party members whenever you want to play solo.

Episode 1 is a bit stiff and a weird mix of disparate plots, but it starts hitting a stride toward the end. Episode 2 and 3 are pretty great all around and by this point they really know how to tell their story. Episode 4 is a new beginning for the story that is totally NUTS and starts bringing in some really crazy ideas to shake things up. It looks like things only get crazier from there.

There are battle moments here and there in 2 difficulties: casual and hardcore. Casual is WAY too easy, while hardcore is often just about impossible. I wish there was a difficulty in between. You get titles for clearing the hardcore versions, so maybe they are supposed to be a good challenge, but casual is so freaking quick and easy that it actually totally deflates any sense of tension for that part of the story.
