I never played Harvest Moon before, but I spent a literal 100 hours on this game the first week I got it. It's addicting the same way Animal Crossing is, where there's always a new little task to do in your cozy town and always something to look forward to tomorrow. The game is sweet dreams fuel, and the characters can be a tad underdeveloped or not have as much dialogue as they could have, but all of them are unique from each other and worth becoming friends with. A minor complaint I have about the game is that it's a bit overwhelming when you first play it as you're not sure where everything is nor do you know much about your town, but the mechanics are explained just fine so you'll just take your time to learn the ins and outs of the game rather than needing outside tutorials. It's a game best played with a wiki opened after your first year (or if you get too frustrated). However, once you get over that, the game rewards you for your hard work and it's immensely satisfying to have a working farm! It's a great time by yourself or with friends (but anything is. this is just even greater!), so you win even if you play by yourself.

The only ways you can go wrong by purchasing this is if you're looking for a super deep town to talk to, or if you're not a fan of playing games with lots and lots of items to collect, or if you're not a fan of games that simulate a whole day in 20-30 minutes. Otherwise, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys cute daily life simulators like Animal Crossing, or customizing houses & gardens, or just enjoys games in general. It's got a bit of something for everyone c:
