this game feels like a book, and its really cool it feels that way, but i hate books and have a habit of putting them down before the end, and this was no different, all because of 1 reason. the combat.

it is atrocious. i described it to my friend as "[it] feels like i'm pulling my pubes out" this game has too much combat and just throws enemies at you and tells you to deal with it, every time i get into combat i just get annoyed and don't even want to fight them, and the good thing is that you don't even have to fight them besides some areas, but if the combat is optional then why put them there in the first place, the dodging mechanic is so terrible that there is no point in doing it, and Wake's stamina is worse than a 90 year old diabetic with asthma

the story's momentum picks up and its really interesting and then it just goes "alright here is 5 barrels, 3 axe men, 2 knifes guys and you have 4 batteries" besides the combat, the story is really interesting and the manuscript's are a really cool way of in game spoilers, but you have no idea what the context is and sometimes they show up a lot later than you pick them up. the voice acting is amazing, besides some lines, and despite being remastered it has still shown age and feels like a slog to get through, hopefully Alan Wake 2 is better

so get it if you enjoy story games, but do yourself a favour and play on easy, normal is not normal at all

This game is amazing and is probably my GOTY.

The voice actor's performance, specifically James, was what I was most worried about. At times, it felt a little too "action hero," but you can tell when the actor really settled into the role, and he nailed it. Sometimes, it’s even better than the original game, which I thought was impossible. Special mention goes to Angela's actor—she deserved this role. I loved seeing her, and she made me tear up after a boss fight. She was amazing and made the character feel more like a real human. Congrats to Bloober for not making her story feel cheap or dumbed down, and for allowing her character to breathe with natural reactions.

The visuals are incredible. They perfectly translated the fixed camera into over-the-shoulder perspective. Seeing the scale of the world and areas was terrifying, and being at eye level with James definitely added to the fear factor. The giant walls, the trees walking to Silent Hill, approaching the hospital, and the dark corridors of the apartments all look so good. The ambiance is amazing—hearing weird noises in your left ear was really cool. They even added a certain whisper in the apartments, which made me smile. Sometimes I’d hear something, turn quickly to see what it was, but find nothing, keeping me on edge the whole time. The monsters are even grosser than before, making me audibly say, "That's disgusting" or "Ew, WTF!" Major props to Masahiro Ito for his amazing monster designs.

As a remake, the game changed the layout of the areas quite a bit. I think the apartments were changed the least, while the prison got a near-total overhaul (which was my favorite area in both the original and this game). Because of the new changes, new puzzles were added, and they were fantastic, fitting the environment and story of each area so well. Each main puzzle had side puzzles to solve, and since you need key items, it encourages you to explore every room and try every locked door to fill your map. James kindly puts exclamation marks on your map if you missed something, which is a very nice QoL improvement. He also marks down important codes on the map, so you don’t have to backtrack to remember them—another great touch. The town also got a renovation, with little side streets full of items and side buildings that have their own puzzles.

I'll start this section by mentioning my setup: I'm using an AMD 5700XT GPU and a Ryzen 7 5700x CPU, playing on low settings with most features set to 'off' and FSR 3.0 on Balanced. The game runs at 60fps, sometimes reaching 70 depending on the area. The worst performance hits happen when exploring the town and the apartments, but it improves later on. Some patches may be needed to fix this. Performance can sometimes stutter and drop frames for no apparent reason, even when standing still, so hopefully a patch addresses this. There are also weird visual bugs, like James' hair being unusually bright at times (apparently a PC issue), strange white outlines that appear and disappear, and a tracing effect on some windows that’s really annoying. But hey, modern gaming, am I right?

Next, a controversial topic: Maria's outfit change. I don’t care much about it, but every time I see Maria, I think of her old outfit and hope they add an option to change it. I don’t mind her new clothes and got used to them pretty quickly, but I do miss the original. Maybe it’s just that I’m not used to the change... but it would be nice to see it added as more than just an Easter egg in a room. The end of the game is emotional, but I felt that some of the impact was lost in this version. It still made me feel somber, but nothing compares to the original’s ending. The voice actor did a fantastic job, and I don’t want to criticize her too harshly, but at times it felt a little bland, like something was missing. Maybe that’s just me.

Well... this review has gone on too long...

This game is truly a love letter from Bloober to the original Silent Hill team (whose names are in the credits, which was really sweet to see). They paid so much attention to detail, and it shows. I was really scared Bloober would do something to spoil the ending in the first 10 minutes, or make the story too obvious, but they handled it carefully, and the execution paid off so well. Congratulations, Bloober—I would love to see your take on Silent Hill 1. You deserve all the love you’re getting from this game.

PS. Konami, can you please put the original 2, 3, and 4 on Steam now? They all got PC ports...

this game has some downsides, mostly the levels feel all the same and are confusing to navigate and the progression is pretty much just "find the key" it would've been nice to see some more interesting mechanics added but its short and simple

the gun-play, the humour, the boss fights are really good, would recommend it for anyone who has an itch for boomer shooters

I was so excited for this DLC, and I’m thrilled that it delivered. It truly encompasses everything I wanted and more: the locations, land, lore, and weapons are all amazing and significantly enhance the game. Some of the spells and incantations should have been in the base game, though, not gonna lie.

If you loved Elden Ring from start to finish, I highly recommend getting the DLC. It reignites your love for the game, and you’ll find yourself spending hours immersed in it. While there are some performance issues, like occasional stuttering and FPS drops during certain boss moves, they aren’t game-breaking.

Now, onto the gripes. Some bosses (specifically four of them) feel excessively aggressive and unfair. In Base Game, fights were well-balanced, allowing players to adjust their strategies after each death. However, in the DLC, these bosses string together relentless attacks, leaving minimal openings.

While it’s still possible to defeat them with patience and understanding of their moves, it can be frustrating. These bosses are part of the main story, so I won’t spoil anything, but I managed to defeat them after 5-10 tries once I leveled up and grasped their patterns. Still, I can’t help feeling that their design leans toward unfairness and lack of fun.

One boss, in particular, completely changes its move set in phase 2, forcing a DPS race to prevent a specific move. I’ve noticed others share this sentiment online, and perhaps a slight nerf to their damage and aggressiveness would improve the fights.

On a personal note, the map design posed challenges. The DLC features a very vertical landscape, with layers upon layers of land, lacking an underground map like the base game. I often lost my orientation and got more confused than I’d like to admit. Having dedicated area maps showing the entire terrain, unobstructed by mountains or other obstacles, would have been helpful.

Despite these issues, Shadow of the Erdtree remains a fantastic expansion. It introduces some of my new favorite areas and bosses in the entire game. The rewarding boss fights are incredibly fun, and there are plenty of secrets to discover. Plus, the new armor sets look really cool!

Overall, I’d rate it 8/10.

TLDR: The DLC has scaling issues and questionable gameplay choices, but it’s still a fantastic addition that I’ll replay endlessly.

This game is really hard to recommend. I did not enjoy this, mainly due to the introduction of adaptability and having to level up your i-frames, which is one of the dumbest game decisions ever made. The game looks extremely weird in some areas. Level design and world design can sometimes be amazing, but others are extremely questionable. As a souls game, however, it scratches that itch people have for one.

This game is hard, mainly because of the bugs and weird controller issues it has. It’s hard, sometimes extremely unfair, but rewarding (sometimes).

Dark Souls III is my favourite souls game, But it’s weird that this is the game I always come back to. I play this game for maybe 7 hours, then stop and uninstall it, then I come back to it to play a souls game, and then the cycle continues. I have 27 hours in this game at the time of writing, and I still haven’t finished it because of this cycle. The most I got up to was the poison tower level where you meet ladder dude.

The bonuses of this game are the content; it’s filled to the brim, and you can do any area in any order you want, which is still really neat.

I will try and play this game fully from start to finish.

But for the love of god, FromSoftware, can you add cloud saving? Like, seriously.

played this game at launch 5 years ago and regretted every minute i spent

but 5 years later this game feels so different and Bethesda have truly turned the game around for the better

some small annoying bugs and lag seems to be a issue (for me at least) but still extremely fun
