Love the characters, story, gameplay, and community.

Please remove the bots from your own servers, Valve.
The game has been alive for more than 17 years, and these past years it's been more alive than ever.
In the store page description it says "The most highly-rated free game of all time!", but since Jungle inferno it has become the most neglected active game of all time.

Your lack of communication and ignorance is saddening, Valve.
Don't let the bots kill this legendary game

I'm going to start off by saying that I didn't play NieR when it first came out in 2010, even though I still have a PS3, but I knew of it. My first exposure to the NieR franchise and Yoko Taro was NieR:Automata. I completed that game and I love it for all it stands for. From the gameplay, visual design ;), and soundtrack, to the complex story, characters and ideals. But this isn't a NieR:Automata review.

NieR Replicant ver. square root of pi is the prequel to NieR:Automata and a sequel to the first Drakengard game. There are plenty of videos on the internet that explain the connection between these games.
Now, I'm not a professional reviewer so I don't want to spend too much time on this, but I love this game and series so much that I can't leave it without saying what I loved about it.

From what I understand from people that have played the 2010 version, this "remaster" is great. It improves the old combat, enhances the visuals, and even adds new content. The addition of the new content is why I used the quotes in "remaster", because it is more than that.

The combat now is more like the combat in Automata, so if you played that you know what to expect. On a short note, it's great. You can finish the game easily just by rushing it and investing a bit of gold in some powerful weapons, like the Phoenix Spear in Facade, the second time you visit , but I don't recommend rushing it because you'll miss out on the great world building that's done by the sidequests.

The story is very interesting and emotional, and I'm not talking only about the main quest. The sidequest are also very interesting, with some exceptions. They give personality to the NPCs and really make you empathize with them. I recommend you don't skip them because some cannot be done after a certain point in the story. Some aren't even shown at first glance and are hidden behind a few interactions with NPCs. I want to warn you about the one quest that I didn't complete because of those reasons. At the end of the first part, the NPC that is near the lighthouse and overlooks the village will give you a quest after you talk to them and exit the village a few times.

About the main story, I just want to say that it has five endings and they are done after multiple playthroughs.

The visuals are great and, in my opinion, the game is well optimized, unlike Automata that still needs some mods to function corectly on PC. In terms of performance/presets, the game runs around 50 fps on medium to high settings with my current PC: i5 10600K, 16gb ram, GTX 1060 3gb :(
If you have trouble getting high fps or the game stutters, try enabling the dynamic resolution setting. It changes resolution to facilitate performance, so it may lower the visual quality.

One technical issue that I see a lot of people have, including me, is the game slowing down to a few fps after connecting/disconnecting a controller.

The soundtrack is beautiful and emotional. I could cry just from hearing the right song at the right time.

The main characters are very likable and the voice actors are excellent, in both English and Japanese.

In conclusion, this is yet another masterpiece by Yoko Taro, and the studio that made the remake a possibility, that surprised me on multiple occasions.

Get ready to cry some because the feels are real

True art and a masterpiece

My words can't do justice to this game and story. Yoko Taro is a mad genius. Also killer soundtrack, Weight of the World makes me cry

And also, I spent over 20 hours to get all the damn fish for true 100%

This game is so much fun.
I've had countless playthroughs both singleplayer and multiplayer. There's so much stuff to do and see, like starting a collection, making a village for the npc's, exploring each world's unique terrain generation ( I still find new and recently rare generation that I haven't seen before), fighting bosses, spelunking and overall having fun by yourself or with friends.
The main thing that I like about this game is that your character is not bound to their world, which means you can join a friend's world as your favorite character without losing any progress.
Even though major updates we're few and far between they were worth the wait. Each update expanded the game massively with new items, mechanics, enemies and even bosses and new terrain. If any friend would want to start a new world with me I would never refuse.

I love this game so much and I recommend it to anyone who has the time to try it.

Now that we've made it full circle and reached the Journey's End, I hope that everyone starts their own new journey and reminisces about the good old days, because a journey is not about the end, but about the memories they made along the way.
