Nice incremental game. It has several distinct styles of play possible. I completed the game easily within 28 hours, so I think expecting somewhere between 20-30 hours of playtime is reasonable. Pixel art and sound are both well done.

If I had to nitpick, having equipment slots for which you can *never* get equipment for is a bit frustrating (it is speculated that these slots will become usable in future dlc?) and the final challenge didn't actually feel that challenging. Some kind of new game+ would be nice.

However those are all nitpicks, if you like grindy, incremental games, then this is a good choice.

This looks like a twin stick action shooter at first glance, but it's a more slow-paced strategic/tactical affair.

If you play this like a twin stick shooter, you won't have fun, I know that's why I didn't enjoy it at first. However, if you slow down, evaluate your current vehicles strengths and weaknesses, and play accordingly, you will have a good time.

Visuals and sound are unique and high quality. Once you take the time to understand the game, consider flanking and your vehicle's orientation (getting hit in the sides and back is a good way to die quick).

Very close to being a good game. However incomplete translation and game breaking bugs means I cannot recommend it. If these issues get fixed i will be happy to change my review to reflect this.

Can't recommend. This game favors Pen and Paper tradition over fun.

In typical pathfinder (and it's inspiration, dnd 3.5) fashion, this game massively favors spellcasters. So much so, that the very first side quest has enemies that are completely immune to regular weapon damage (but easy to kill with spells). There are obtuse ways to complete this quest as a non-spellcaster, but a quick look at the forums shows many others also have a lot of trouble with this quest, it's so bad that many people quit because an early quest just says "Your archetype can't do any damage against swarms of small creatures (literally, swarms of spiders or rats are immune to regular weapon damage).

It is fine for spellcasters to be strong against a type of enemy, but making an early sidequest basically impossible for non-spellcasters seems like a strange joke.

To continue on the spellcaster/non spellcaster imbalance. If you are a spellcaster, during combat you usually have at least 5 options in combat (various spells) along with regularly attacking.

But as a fighter? You can do regular attacks, maybe lower your chance to hit in exchange for more defense. That's it.

When traditional style rpgs have evolved so much, pathfinder's systems feel old, boring and restrictive. I recommend you play Divinity 2 or pillars of eternity 2.

This game is a 'middle thumb' review. It is good and bad. I am thumbing it down because it doesn't respect the player's time.

The settlement management aspects of the game are good, but one of the primary mechanics of the game (tributes) are very frustrating.

Dialogue and art are plentiful and well done.

Combat is interesting but a little shallow. Also the animations are long and once you realise combat is a source of resources, you kind of need to grind combat, which takes a lot of the player's time.

Also, there are many events, the art and writing is good. However for some of the main story events, you have a series of something close to coin-flips. And if you fail any of the coin flips? Well then you get a penalty to your character/resources drained, and then have to go through the dialogue and the coinflips again. It simply doesn't respect the player's time.

I played 31 hours of it. So I would say I got my money's worth. But at the same time, I wonder how much of that time I actually spent 'enjoying' it and how much was my lizard brain being satisfied by watching little numbers go up and down.

Verdict: Worth picking up if it's on sale. Presents a solid 4~6 hours of gameplay.

Kingsway is an interesting game. While slightly gimmicky it does have some depth and potential for various builds.

There are multiple endings which is nice and the ends unlock different characters (along with some meta progression between even failed runs).

However the actual gameplay can be a little tedious. Travelling and random encounters feels a bit grindy and like a timesink. However there is a mechanic similar to Faster Than Light (FTL) which pushes the player to move to more difficult areas.

Overall I feel like I got an enjoyable 6 hours out of Kingsway, but there doesn't seem to be much more than that (for me, personally).

The game visually is difficult to get into at first, but once you get beyond that, there is a pretty deep system for combat. Lots of abilities stats. There is a good tutorial and everything has a tooltip which makes understanding the game easy.

The dev is currently very active both on the forums and regarding pushing out updates.

An indie 'JRPG'. Heavily inspired by final fantasy. Being an indie game it does lack the breadth that you might find in something like final fantasy. However the content that is there, is highly polished. Really nice animations and textures. Lots of love clearly went into the game.

Battle system is typical JRPG flair with their own twist on it. Being able to respec your character freely is very appreciated. Overall the game is balanced, but possibly on the easy side (with some frustrating difficulty spikes, I sometimes had more trouble with certain trash mobs moreso than the bosses).

Big negative is that if you quit a dungeon partway through, you will be teleported to the entrance, meaning you need to run back to where you were. Not hugely inconvenient, but because of this you need to make sure you've generally got at least 30mins to play.

What kind of modern game doesn't let you save your game during battle? Even then, once you get out of the battle, if you're in a tutorial campaign, it doesn't let you save!

A great little coffee break roguelike similar to desktop dungeons. Definitely worth the price.
