Aside from the transition to semi open world gameplay, Metro stayed the same and even devolved in many aspects.

The slow movements and survival elements made for an interesting experience in the depths of the metro, but without this claustrophobic environement and the superb level design of the previous games, the experience feels bland and unsatisfaying.

In terms of writing, it also feels like a clear downgrade, from the premisce of Exodus it feels like a stretch, clearly derivating from the source material to provide an unecessary sequel.

Ive waited until 2024 to try this game, and ive still encountered various bugs.

On paper the game could have been very good, but it lacks ambition. Not enough effort was put into making this a true open world game. The weapon mod system feels lackluster, the train and relation management are practically inexistant. I feel like im playing a bad stalker mod for far cry.

Perhaps they should have taken some time to fletch out the new mechanics, or make another game set in the metro. Or perhaps a sequel wasnt needed after all, Last Light being a perfectly good ending point in my opinion.

I said the exact same thing... fells like Far Cry. They totally forgot what made Metro and Metro game... it was putting you at the mercy of the world and at the bottom of the food chain. Dredging through the underbelly of the Metro clenching on to your bullets praying you don't have to waste them in a gun fight. Gasping for air as you lose your mind to the horrors so traumatic it is imprinted into the locations themselves.
