Early Access Review
A Doom engine based game, that isn't Doom at all. I've been having my eye on it ever since I saw the demo for it and as soon as it got into Early Access, I bought it (I think it's already worth it with the sheer content in it and the open source tools provided for mapping and modding). It's very interesting on what can be done on a rather old game engine (with some necessary modifications). Selaco is a game that is (probably) inspired by Half-Lilfe and FEAR, as in between fight sections you spend some time exploring the area looking for data logs and secrets and try to figure out where to go next. It has a nice mix between fighting and exploring as most of the time, when entering a new area, the layout is figured out through fighting enemies.

The enemy AI is quite nice, as it resembles that from FEAR. Enemies don't just walk towards you, they spread out, hide behind cover and wait for your actions or run up to you with the intentions of facing you with a trigger happy shotgun. Enemies are color coded according to their gun (i.e. Shotgunners will always have a bright red light before shooting). Fights are therefore quite interesting on how they play out. You can hear what the enemies are planning and react accordingly. The environment is also built around these fights. Paper goes flying, fire extinguisher can be used as smoke bombs, vacuum robots can be equipped with a turret head to turn into a mobile turret and all stuff goes flying during explosions.

If you like the aesthetics of the sprites from Doom (and Doom-likes) and futuristic environments, then this game is probably for you.
