The game itself is fun, as fun as a civ game can be. Still feels very modern going on several years since release.
2K asks you to agree to their terms of service when you launch the game BUT YOU CAN DECLINE AND STILL PLAY LOL, NEVER ACCEPTING TOS. 2K has locked Julius Caesar behind linking your 2K account to the game, however you can just get around this no problem if you search certain sites.
All the DLC is very shallow and honestly not worth spending money on if you know what I mean.
The biggest advantage to the Linux version is NO 2K LAUNCHER. THATS IT.
Windows version had occasional crashes with mods. Windows version - multiplayer with mods is occasionally unstable. Native Linux version mods don't work at all without obscure work around.
Linux version is very unstable - likes to crash more than Windows and has frequent audio issues.
Alt-tabbing on XFCE only works if done slowly (not multiple times in a row) and while spamming the Super key (Windows key) to take the focus off the game window. I haven't tested alt tabbing on Gnome because I can't be bothered. Probably doesnt work there too. The easiest workaround is to play non-fullscreen.
I haven't tested Linux Multiplayer but reading on forums leads me to believe the Native Linux version doesn't like connecting with the Windows version. An absolute dumpster fire on Linux.
Makes me wonder why Aspyr bothered making a separate version for Linux when it is so poorly supported.
If you buy this on Linux, expect to play the Windows version with Proton. It is reportedly flawless this way. However, it's reported that the 2K launcher has compatibility issues when run through proton.

Terrible trash game. Singleplayer was great when it was new. The online is 100% microtransaction garbage designed to waste your time and punish you for trying to "progress".
Thankfully FiveM exists which is what the majority of PC players play now, however FiveM is mostly full of roleplay servers like GMOD DarkRP which negates any potential fun you could have with it because 13 year old admins on powertrips

This game is a grindfest of constant dopamine high designed for ADHD adderall riddled manchildren.
Every now and then they will trick you into playing again by offering skeleton key codes when the reality is you could just cheat and get them anyway. Dont tell gearbox I said that.
The game is a 24/7 checklist grind occasionally interrupted by dated internet meme jokes that werent funny in 2010.
Dont fall for the meme. Don't start a new character for the 4th time and finish campaign. Don't start New Game+. Don't start grinding bosses for Legendaries. None of this is worth your time.

Sure, the game is technically shelved by the devs but there is a whole lot here already, you could basically play this forever.

I feel like this game didnt live up to the hype after all. Singleplayer is fun until you beat it once on Nightmare/UN then it's boring again. Multiplayer is just straight up bad and empty. Before it was empty - on release it was full of hackers and lag. We also were promised official mod tools but never got them. I like the fast paced movement and action but I feel like at the end of the day it's DOOM 2016 without OP Imp Fireballs that can seek around corners and one tap you.
