Early Access Review
Rise of the Village Hero has a environmental design that reminds me a lot of old school games, most noticeably the style gives me that RuneScape vibe. I enjoyed the game for as far as I was able to get into it, which apparently was pretty far.

The game has some good story beats with the dialogue that you get from the NPC's in the game as you learn the lore of this world from starting with nothing & rising in strength & power to save people from the Orc incursion. But that being said, I did notice some grammar issues, but that's something that is easily corrected & not a huge deal as I even see grammar mistakes in games like World of Warcraft (even ones that haven't been fixed since Vanilla!)

The game is pretty generous with giving you things like HP/Stam potions, but the offset to that is the lack of NPC vendors to spend your gold on or to sell your overflowing backpack of items.
Controls are simple & straight forwards & I didn't really have any issues with them, though I feel the camera could use a bit more work as it feels a little senstive, maybe a sensitivity slider in the options can fix that.
Leveling up is something that feels random even though you are gaining EXP, there isn't like an EXP bar on the UI that lets you know how much EXP you have or how much more you need to level up.
On the topic of the UI, the character UI needs a bit of work as the Equipment window icons feel like they are not in a more proper order.
Speaking of leveling, allocating stat points feels like its lacking because unless you the player know the traditional tropes of allocating stat points, you won't really know where you should be allocating your points.

Combat I feel needs a bit of work, because you carry a shield but there is no way to use it to further help mitigage or block incoming damage.
It just seems like the shield is like a statstick for your defensive stat.

Now as of this writing the game is in early access & the dev has been taking in feedback from the growing community that helps them improve & further polish this game which has a lot of potential. I appreciate the opportunity I was given by the dev to check out this game & I can't wait to jump back in down the line as this game gets more updates to it.
I'll likely start over from the beginning so I can experience those changes as this game is that fun & would absolutly be worth starting over again, which when that happens I'll add an update to this review to document those changes that I experienced.

I will say that mobs need to have a leash limit as you can see here:

ROCK & STONE! After putting 50 hours into the game, I have to say this game is far better than I ever expected it to be & I have been enjoying it quite a bit. From the mechanics of the different dwarfs, to running solo or group missions. While yes you could play this game entirely solo, its more fun with friends. You can play with your friends, or join a game in progress & help others on their mission in which you'll also get rewards too.

I have been playing this game since the demo & a closed test beta & I have to say that everything from my start to now has been amazing. The devs have been very active on discord & receptive to suggestions & ideas from the player base, quite a few in fact which have been implemented well after the launch of the game itself which is really something else & a rare thing I think in todays gaming space between gamers, content creators & game devs. And they still to this day in the form of minor patches continue to put out performance updates which is great for players like me who like to build big bases with massive storage rooms. Early on that was a huge problem because of a memory leak that was eating up all my RAM. The devs looked into it & within 2 weeks they put out an amazing optimization update that not only addressed that but it also improved loading times for the game as well. They continue to make optimization updates like that & even when they are in the background to other bugs being squashed I know they are listening.

Above Snakes takes a unique spin on the Open World/Sandbox Base-Building genres with one very simple feature.
Tiles. Tiles that help you shape the world to how you want it, also you have to know that no matter how you play this game it is 100% unique to you in that no one else is going to have the same map as you with how they play their game & build their world. The world you build is important to the story, but its the way in which you build it that crafts YOUR story of how you see the game.

The story of the game is very rich as well & while as of this writing I haven't even fully finished it yet (not even in the last beta where I got further but stopped because I didn't want to spoil the ending for myself), the world & its people really make you think about the land you build around you.

Do you like Roguelite/Base Building games in space?
Then do I have the game for you!

Let me preface this review that I did receive this product for free though a contest on the Threads app.

I been watching this game on social media for a while & did get this game a few weeks back (I got a lot on my plate)

But I was finally able to jump in for the first time tonight & in my first run I managed to complete it & pick up 7 of the 20 Steam achievements.

So you will be building out your space station on the fly as you drop down stations & defenses to help you survive the increasing onslaught of enemy ships. Mine passing asteroids to increase your income & build your ship how you want it. Hire your crew & manage them as well as events to help you help others. As your power increases so does your confidence in taking on the enemy, but you'll have to be smart to manage your resources as well as your power consumption.

A great game by a small team that is even further endorsed by me as a great game to get you started in other games like this. It's not as unforgiving as other games of this nature can be, but it will give you an enjoyable play experience that will keep you coming back for more.

I will end this by saying that if you have ever been on the fence about playing a game like this, its time to get over that fence. This game is a great way to introduce you to other similar games, with out the rage educing enemies ruining your perfect run. Now you may hit some bugs, but there is a growing active Discord community with a bug reporting channel that you can let the Devs know what you encountered.

A good prologue that gives you just a taste of what to expect from this game.
With active development & changes even happening as we get closer to the release date, by way of an active dev who is taking players feedback on social media & reviews to improve & make some good QOL changes to the game. This is a game that one could sink hours upon hours in & that no two worlds will look the same between the player base.

If you are looking for a modern RPG game with a great retro throwback feel to it, then this is the game for you.
With active development from the creator for the current Act I while also working on Act II this is a game that is going to have a lot of reply value. It even has a harder progression when you clear the first Act.

Act II looks like it was delayed, but I think that's a positive as it means more development time for it but it also allows current & new players to fully continue to explore & complete achievements they are working towards before new content drops.

As with all games, there are minor bugs here & there that you may come across & the creator is active on socials, so feedback like that is very important as it allows him to try to replicate these issues & work on solutions.

The music of the game is quite relaxing & the story is engaging while also emotional at the same time.
Trust me, you will catch feels playing this. The game seems very simple now but new systems are coming & I can't wait for it because it means I'll get to start over in a new save file & see what I remember & how everything feels come Act II.

This game is worth your time if you are a fan of retro JRPG games.

Fun game. If you are looking for something to do while you have some downtime, this is a decently paced game to help pass the time. Matches are not long or overly complicated, if you have played games like Clash Royale & enjoyed it, then you will more than likely enjoy what this game has to offer. Solo & Team Battles bring an interesting dynamic to this game & depending on how you play your cards or build your deck(s) you can either win or lose a match. But it's all about having fun & improving as you learn your cards & what they can do against other types of cards.

With already 50+ hours logged, I am really enjoying what RoR2 has to offer thus far & greatly impressed.
I really love the challenge of it & being able to not only play with friends, but complete strangers as well with the multiplayer.
That being said, my biggest complaint about the multiplayer is if the host of the party dies & they leave the game to make a new game it disconnects everyone else ruining all that progress & leaving us unable to progress or even have an actual ending to a game. That is something I would hope gets addressed in a future patch.
I also have a more favorable suggestion, in the higher levels it can often at times be a pain regrinding gold to open up more expensive loot boxes. Perhaps we could keep a % of the gold we have on hand when going though a teleporter with deminishing returns the more teleports you take in the same game. (i.e. first teleporter keep 25% of gold unspent, 2nd portal 20%, 3rd, 15% & so on & so forth.
Other than that, all in all please keep up the amazing work. I am enjoying all game modes of this game & even enjoying playing with my friend.

This game has been sitting on my wishlist for 2 years & the game was surrounded by lots of drama. But I am glad I kept it on their because two years later we got NMS: Next & there has never been a better time to jump into the game. It is still as amazing as it first looked 2 years ago but now with so many new additions. After watching friends play for several years, I finally took the plunge & I haven't regretted it yet. I still believe NMS can be one of the best games on Steam, & with them continuing to work on the game & to bring us new things, it can be.

I discovered this game on NewGrounds & have been a fan ever since. It is a really simple, yet very fun PvP game that does require some skill to swing your weapon. Chase enemies down, eat food, gain health, send your enemies flying. The multi fight is great & the one-on-one fight is a true test of your mettle on the battlefield.

As the game is still in Early Access, there is a lot that is still coming that has yet to be implimented & I cannot wait for them to roll out in the future! This simple, yet fun, PvP game is great for all ages & is really easy to learn, even easier to get addicted to. 10/10 would play again.
