Run as fast and as far away from this game as your little legs may carry you.

Before you read, if you think you should buy this, do yourself a favor and at least wait for a sale. Not worth $8 dollars in its current state.

I absolutely, positively cannot recommend this game to anyone. For the time it took from the ending of the kickstarter and the poorly aged jokes that Hussie made about how much money he earned in total(while absolutely ruining the chance to get any of the stolen money back), Hiveswap is already looking like a worse version of Broken Age, with the beginning starting out decent, then having to buy each "chapter"(aka an actual part of the game that should already exist) with nearly immediate diminished returns. Two things that I can talk positively about the game is that it... looks pretty, and appropriately sets the scenes according to the time period(WOW, REMEMBER POGS AND LITEBRITES? WE'RE SO QUIRKY).
That's it.
Hiveswap is still showing Hussie's absolute mastery of color coordination(which I always deeply appreciated from his Problem Sleuth days), so while what I said was sincere, nearly every single other aspect of the game is severely lacking. Puzzles, if they can even be called that, depend on you having two eyes and a mouse. There is literally nothing challenging in the game itself, even for a point and click: how do you get a key? Don't worry, every single step is described in excrusciating detail, or you have to click on a teddy bear on a whim.

For combat, I'm not even sure how to critique it: The girl won't use guns because it would make combat last one t-sorry, because she doesn't like guns. You can tapdance, you can pirouette, you can flash a light, but it takes you out of having any sort of fun with it when 'options' turn into 'one solution you have infinite time/turns to choose accordingly'.

Characters are absurdly flat, with gems such as "I hate my dad but I'm the main character so I'm also nice" and "I BUILT MY TINFOIL HAT OUT OF CHILDHOOD DREAMS AND FOX NETWORK SATELLITE DISHES", as well as "Tavros, but worse". As having read all of Homestuck, I could not in my wildest dreams expect anything better than what we have now for the characters, but I'd be willing to change my opinion on this as the different chapters come out; looking in from a lets play, as it stands right now.

$8 after two million and waiting months for chapters after years from the kickstarter campaign disguists me, but I'm only holding so much vitriol for this and writing a review longer than I ever would want to read because I KNOW Hussie and the What Pumpkin staff at large can do so much better.

EDIT: VIZ Media now owns Homestuck. Say good ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bye to any chance of this game being anything other than a mistake.

Worth the $.30 just so you can fully grasp how mind numbingly flimsy quality control is on steam.
