better than overwatch so thats a win in my book, needs some heavy optimisation tho, especially considering higher framerate = more distance traveled with quite a few movement abilities. devs seem to know what they're doing with balance changes tho which is a good change

I haven't finished this game yet but I'm pretty sure my opinion won't change much when I do get around to completing the game.

Overall I enjoy the atmosphere/universe, the Father has good dialogue and voice acting, weapon designs are cool and wallrunning is always appreciated. The game is good, however I was let down more than anything. But I can't put my finger on why I can't enjoy this game to the fullest like I have with many other indie boomer shooters such as Dusk, Turbo Overkill, Severed Steel etc, the best way I could describe it is, its too clunky. I felt most comfortable when I had my finger perma-glued to shift so I could bhop and wallrun easier, sliding doesn't seem to provide the speed benefit that it should do in comparison to other similar games on the market, it definitely has a learning curve but I feel like only diehard quake/boomer shooter fans will persist with it in order to learn the mechanic, whether intended or not. The inclusion of some sort of upgrade system to make the player faster or add a double jump or auto pickup adrenaline would make the game more accessible to players unknown to this genre, but also so that they can enjoy the faster paced combat keeping them in the flow state longer, and this would then also apply to the better players as well.

I'd also like to mention that it only seems that pistol ammo is dropped on enemy kill? Doom Eternal does this well with the chainsaw but I as the player shouldn't be handicapped for having a preferred weapon and when I run out of ammo, force me to no longer use it and find ammo later on in the mission to use for the next fight, or perhaps its more of an ammo capacity issue. There doesn't seem to be any reason to use the katana as your blows that are dealt are the same as hitting a headshot so a different animation for the katana would be another nice touch, or just giving the player a reason to use the melee weapon rather than just a last resort.

The gameplay doesn't have much oompf that keeps you coming back, I love the fact that quick switching is encouraged but when you just have the same combo over and over just in different positions it gets old quick. I tend to get lost quickly in this game as well, on the highrise rooftop level, which I think is E2M2 (I'm probably wrong in that assumption) I couldn't work out initially where to go and ended up going in a loop as I kept missing the walled off wallrunning spot that was the intended route to get there, which I subsequently found after accidentally jumping over the barrier of where I was supposed to go.

AI repeat the same lines and seem to be laser focused on your location, I would imagine that the adrenaline ability either slows down time for Seven or for everyone else around them, so to the enemies this should be reflected, their dialogue cutting off after they die would be a nice touch but this is a niche complaint. When fighting one of the bosses, it wasn't that engaging as even without using adrenaline or sliding I could avoid the bullets fired, and I don't think the ground slam was that difficult to avoid either. A classic use shoot the weak spots, target the vulnerable character inside, do this 3 times and then he dies. I think application of giving the player choice would benefit this game a lot, so for example in this boss fight, maybe his gun overheats which gives the player time to recuperate, or if enough damage comes his way in general (without targetting his weak spots) this also overheats him forcing him to kneel down giving the player another opportunity to shoot him in the back without him moving.
