I have no idea what was happening, I found the story dis-interesting, all the characters bland, and eventually skipping all the dialog I could. I always picked the first option because it didn't matter. After so long I would have the game audio on low and podcast playing.

How did I rack up so much time?

Just listening to podcasts while testing mods, building ships, running around trying to complete planets, and doing missions without caring what the point was. If it were not for the mods and ship building, I wouldn't have put in so much time.

Early Access Review
If Pokemon were based, fun, well developed, and on Steam, it would be this.
Well, that's what this is, so I guess I'm saying this is the game Intendo would never make.

Say what you will about Sony, but this is one of the best looking games I have on Steam. The character models are a bit dated, but that's to be expected from a game released in 2017. However, the environments, lighting, and machines all look great. On Steam Deck, it looks good, but I would argue that it should be "playable" not "verified" based on my experience, more on that later.

I personally have no complaints about the game play, every new machine is almost a puzzle you have to solve to take down, effectively and economically. You really can't go in guns blazing (well bow or slingshot), against the machines if you want to walk away with resources and ammo.

I have a slight gripe is with controls and trying to select the right ammo, the wheel is a little too responsive and I've tried to select say the flame arrow and right as I click off it selects the regular arrow. Then there's sudden encounters when you realize you need a different weapon and there's no quick select, you have to pause, go to the menu and do it.

The story is really engaging and like a mystery to solve. The more you peel back, the more you want to keep going to find out what is really going on, what happened to this world. There's kind of two main stories going on at the same time. The politics, cultures, and beliefs clashing with the current tribes; and the mystery of what happened to the Earth and mankind.

Now as far as the Steam Deck goes, yes you can play this game on Steam Deck, but don't expect a solid 30FPS with the default settings. I've gone in a tweaked the settings enough to know where I like it to be, and set the FPS limit so it runs well, so on average it will have a mostly just over 30 but less than 40FPS, but still have significant dips and it looks like a Power Point slide show for a few seconds when an encounter starts or a new area loads. You just have to go in and adjust the settings, if you use the default, it will have performance issues in my experience.

Lastly, and this is on the Devs not Valve or the Steam Deck, it's the graphics and visual settings not staying where it is set with the hardware. IE, when I go from my PC to Steam Deck, I have to adjust the graphics each time. Hence how I've pretty much memorized the settings I like. Again, this is a dev thing, I've played some newer titles that do lock settings to the device, but not this one. So just keep that in mind if you're like me and go from one device to another. I would like to see an update for this, but I doubt it.

All in all, great visuals, great story, great game play, a few menu control complaints, and performs well on Steam Deck if you make some adjustments.

Netflix should have just made this the show. But they went with the books...kind of, in a way, for the first season.
But they hired...individuals who didn't think The Witcher in a show called The Witcher was very important.
The show and the show runners are getting what they deserve for not caring about the fans, the IP or their most important actor.

There's simply not enough to play. The game is more of a pretty looking movie, that makes no sense, packed full of exposition and pointless dialog.

I really wanted to like this game, I tried to play it, but the game DOESN'T want you to play it. It wants you to listen to dialog and manage inventory. You can see that I only have 5 hours with this game, I'm willing to bet only 45 minutes to an hour or so was actual game play, and I really like the game play. Planning a route, seeing the terrain, realizing you planned a bad route, and then adjusting on the fly. You're also doing this while carrying a heavy load. I really liked that, to me that was fun. But you only do it for 5 minutes or so, then you're at the next station.

Once you get there though, pretentious cut scenes that never get to the point, exposition explaining the exposition, that was explaining the exposition. Dialog that goes on for several minutes that really has no point. Guillermo del Toro's character talking for 5 minutes just to say "I don't know." The DeadHard Man or whatever, dude in the mask, says nothing of importance. He just talks and talks an talks but says nothing. I really wanted to know what Mads Mikkelsen's role was, the trailers for the game really built him up, but all I saw were flashbacks.

And here's what really bothers me about the exposition, IT MAKES NO SENSE. It's just word salad saying things you don't understand, so why bother with so much of it? Even the meaningless side characters when you make a delivery want to talk your ear off. I eventually just ending up skipping their dialog. If there was a cut scene, I watched it because I thought there was would be important information in it. But not really, there were a few rules to establish. Like if you die, you become a nuclear bomb, BBs can see the BTs, BTs are ghosts or something that will kill you and came you a nuke too...or something it's not clear. I don't need 4 hours of cut scenes to tell me that. I don't need a guy droning on about the deliver. I don't need you telling me these thumb drives I'm carrying are full of a substance you don't explain.

Just let me plan routes and navigate them through hazards and enemies. That's what I really liked, and why I kept trying, but I realized that's a VERY small part of the game. But what set me off was the inventory crap. OK, so get an order, I accept the order, I get like half a dozen boxes from the order. I say to myself "I'm going to plan the route, make the delivery, then get to the next order ASAP." So I do that, execute the route, listen to another bizarre song, then get to the next station. I make the delivery, I picked up NOTHING along the way because I just wanted to get there. AFTER I make the deliver, there are still 5 boxes on my back. WTF. I was given 6, I made the delivery, WHY do I have 5, what are these for? Do I dump them, nothing tells me what they are for, what do I do? If I dump them will I realize "Oh you need them 6 stations from now, go back." That's when I just gave up. If you can't make your point, I'm done. I've already put up with worthless exposition that really doesn't say anything, watched cut scenes that are just very well done graphics that make no point, then you want to give me all this equipment and not tell me what it is for? No, I'm done. I spent almost 6 hours waiting to get to a point and all I got was some vague explanation about how delivering boxes and carrying thumb drives full of a substance you never explained will reverse some kind of apocalypse that was never explained.

Don't get me started on the equipment, I don't need all the crap when the only useful thing is the ladder.

With game play I really enjoyed, graphics I really though were great, actors I wanted to see, I got handed a nothing burger full of cut scenes that went no where and too much inventory that I didn't tell me what it was for.

Just to be upfront, I bought this on Steam at launch, it ran like crap so I got a refund. Then I saw it was on sale for GOG Galaxy for like $20 so I got it there.

IMO, the game was best part of the game is the first couple of hours. It does seem over bloated and so distracted on trying to be hyperbolic on the whole cyber punk shtick, that it gets lost with trying to do too much of everything.

The whole coming from nothing and being this respected mercenary/bounty hunter type role was pretty fun. It was wasted with most of it being a montage. THAT should have been the whole game IMO.

But it seems they were so focused on trying to force Keanu Reeves into the game. I liked it less when he shows up. It just becomes another cliche early 2000's "OMG everyone is after us and I'm going to die" story.

The game-play, the world, the characters, the story, the side quests were just not worth the time investment for me. If you just want to raise hell and break everything while laughing at raunchy ads, then OK, you might like it more than me. It was cliche and trying too hard to be unique instead of just being a good game.

Changing this to not recommended.

The game is bland now. It seems apparent that they did not have a real plan. The further along the game gets the less sense the story makes.

I feel like Gordan Ramsay on Kitchen Nightmares when he goes to a restaurant, tries the food, and is like, "Damn, it's just bland and boring. So disappointing. Especially from a restaurant that's been here for so long." I've been playing Destiny for so long I can't believe how bland it is to me now.

The introduction of an annoying AF character and a bland, tedious stage ruined the game for me.

The file size keeps growing but I don't feel like the content and value is. So I just have to step away from it now.

Update 1 Nov.
I found out today that this could be due to poor optimization with GTX Pascal cards. So if you’re running another card, you may not experience the same issues.
I am running a GTX 1080 for reference.

This seems like a great game in a great environment, I would normally recommend it, but it needs to be patched.
Too many bugs and poorly optimized for PC.
It's basically like an early access but advertised as complete, that's my main reason for not recommending it. Not because it's a bad game. Which has been noted by almost every trade review for the game, the amount of bugs you encounter.
But at this point it's kind of to be expected. Ubisoft should have just launched it a month or so after consoles, which is typically SOP for PC games that are multi-platform.
It's playable, but all the "blzzzzt" and looping during cut scenes, stuttering during gameplay and unexpected dips to flash card speed in performance made it less than enjoyable for me. I like to get lost in the game, this constantly brought me out of it. Maybe if you're the type of person that just wants to run around and story be damned, you might enjoy it more.
Then there is the "you have to create a u-play account just to play the game you just paid money for." Really?
But gripes aside, it seems like a great game under all that, but I would just wait until it's patched better.
Hold off on purchasing it, wait until it's patched and fixed.
If you're on the fence I'd say ad it to your wish list and when you get an notification that it's on sale, I'm sure by then it will be a more polished a complete game.
I just can't recommend it in it's current state.
