SHODAN is back! Well... in a retrograde manner of speaking. I've never played the original System Shock but I LOVE LOVE LOVE System Shock 2. I consider it to be the best PC game for a shooter genre ever! Even surpassing Half-Life which has over-shadowed it at that time.

"Shivers tingling down my spine" is an overly-stated understatement when her digital horrific condescending "Insect" came on, after more than 20 years when I last listened to her. The game kicked me with its graphically-beautiful upgraded boots into the nostalgic realm, and it was a great experience.

Any new players can easily tell this is indeed a remake, without prior knowledge that... it is a remake. Because of how faithful it is to the original. They are a few game design choices that seem backward, sort of anti-service to players of this generation. There are no objective prompts to tell you what you should do next. The level design is a maze in the most literal sense ever. There is no indication or feedback if a door can be opened! But I believe the developers have made this intentional.

Hey, aren't there comments in many game forums of players complaining of how games are too easy nowadays and serving objectives to you on a golden platter? I feel the System Shock remake is a whole fresh take on today's kind of games, and such indie games of similar style are under-appreciated. While I think this game is not for everybody, this is a must play for those open-minded players who like first person dungeon crawler shooter and are looking for something different.

That said, I still feel System Shock 2 is still way superior. After playing this game, you may want to give System Shock 2 a try! ;)

Warning: I first played this game on 2-2-2-2 configuration and man, it is hard, and I don't mean the Dark Souls kind of hard. I mean it requires some brain power and strategy. For those who have not played at least System Shock 2 before, you may want to set every difficulty option to 1. Setting them to 2 or more MAY repel players from going back to play it after only a few hours in. Also, don't trust reviewers who has played only a few hours of the game.

Tips: It is also advisable to play this game with a pen and a notebook beside you. You have to listen and read every log carefully and note down details which you think are important, or you will get lost!
