This is a great, actually challenging, turn-based game with simple core gameplay.

Linux
Native Linux build works well on a laptop with integrated AMD GPU. I wish more strategy games would stick to 2D graphics.

Play this to get better at programming. Never have I been more invested in learning math than when trying to solve a puzzle (Hamming code) for this game.

As an intermediate dev, I found this game challenging in a very fun way.

You start every single run with the same bad deck. How good your run is is 100% RNG dependent, because all the good cards can only be gotten through RNG.

Let's compare this game to a roguelike I love - Angband. In Angband all items are "unlocked" on your very first run. The only difference between your first and your 1000th run in Angband is your game knowledge and experience. However, in Slay the Spire, you must grind before all in-game items are unlocked, and only then are you able to progress further in your runs.

Another point, the RNG, in Angband you can hang around a level until you have all the gear you want before advance into deeper levels, while Slay the Spire forces you to progress further, if you had bad card drops, you are stuck with those cards and you are forced to play in a specific style the RNG gave you. This makes the game feel incredibly frustrating and unrewarding.

A good party game to play locally versus your friends. Game mechanics are unique, well designed, and fun. Graphics and music are great.

Game Mechanics
The game is made for 4 players to play locally, 1 player plays as the "hero" while the others try to stop him. After killing the hero, whoever delivered the final blow becomes the hero and so on. Playing as monsters/traps is a very unique feature, when players level up their hero other players get to level up their monsters. There is a wide variety of monsters and it's fun discovering how to play each one.

Graphics, sound
The game goes for a horror theme and it accomplishes it's goal well. The game uses pixel art, and does it well, although the low "resolution" can strain my eyes a bit, other friends of mine also noticed this.

Music is great, some of the melodies will get stuck in your head.

A classic. Very strong online community for both ranked and casual multiplayer play.

I got this game for $5 on sale, and I wouldn't have paid any higher.

The game mechanics are shallow and unrewarding. AI is horrible, I've played a lot of strategy games, so I'm used to bad AI, but this game is right near the top. UI and UX are unfinished and unpolished, sometimes downright absurd how bad some design choices are.

Strategy and depth of game mechanics

If you are expecting an immersive, in-depth gameplay like Football Manager, you're bound to be disappointed by the shallowness of mechanics in this game. Telemetry screen during races is very basic and useless. Strategy is done on the fly, you don't need to look into timetables or anything to make the right decision. During practice sessions you need to min-max your car setup and "knowledge", so you don't have to try out the compounds and see tire wear and performance. The knowledge mechanic is also a shallow mechanic that just forces you to do the same exact thing before every race to min-max it.

It feels like whatever you do you're going to start winning at one point as AI is unable to do anything right, including developing it's car. Keep in mind that car development just requires you to mindlessly develop parts during the season, no way to mess it up, really, just design new parts whenever you can. All of the game mechanics outside of race weekend feel like you're given a multiple choice test where you just need to select the biggest number. This includes sponsorships, car development, pre-season car development, pit crew management, staff management, driver management.

UI and UX

You know it's a big problem when UI and UX have to be mentioned in a review. The game is obviously made for mobile devices as scroll doesn't work in most menus correctly.

You get some screens where you can search for staff and drivers, but you can't even filter by attributes/bonuses, instead you have to click through every driver to see their stats.

Data centre during the race is absolutely unusable and useless (you are going to win anyway, so why bother).

What made me stop playing the game is when I lost my pit crew after 3 seasons of carefully picking them because I forgot to renew contracts. That shouldn't even have been a part of the game, yet they made crew contracts a real PITA by not giving you an option to auto-renew contracts, and no reminders that contracts are expiring. Ideally it should've been done so that you select your pit crew for the season and at the end of the season you get an option to replace a crew member or extend their contract. It's really a cherry on top of how bad the UI and UX are, and how unfinished this game is.

Licencing

They haven't paid for licencing of any real-world racing series, which I don't mind, but at least don't make your teams similar to real world teams, as it makes the game feel like parody or a joke, it looks very unprofessional.

Combat
Game features a unique combat system that takes a bit of practice to learn. but once learned it becomes a bit too easy, unless you are fighting multiple opponents at once.

Save System
This game features a unique save system which discourages you from saving before every important encounter, however there are some drawbacks to this system, like random encounters while travelling (which are basically unwinnable as it's usually 3v1 situation).

Gameplay and Story
The graphics and realistic historical setting was really well done, the main reason why I recommend this game. Are you tired of saving the world from 7 dimensional ancient demons? This game is a nice break from sci-fi, magic and all the other unoriginal themes present in most modern games. This game actually made me interested in the history of medicine due to it's unique alchemy system.

The game itself becomes boring after a while as you quickly discover all there is to the game, but I don't usually play RPG games, so YMMV.

You have a tribe of a few workers and you have to bring them through couple of halts (nodes) to the end of their journey for which you need resources. You need to consider the biomes of the nodes, and plan your workers' skills. It also has beautiful graphics, and calming sounds.

What I particularly like about this game is how short one game lasts for a resource management game. Instead of long-term planning and playing for tens of hours, you get a quick game of optimization and resource management, one run lasts about ~1 hour for me.

Linux
Game runs really well on Linux, I personally had no problems running it on two machines.

Great game, easy to learn so you can get your non-gamer friends to play it with you and have a lot of fun while screaming at each other :)

I have a group of friends who play local multiplayer games with me and we are all very competitive (I don't play online, only locally with my friends). When I got this game we stayed up until 4 AM playing it.

This game is the best local multiplayer I've played so far when it comes to playing in teams. Game mechanics are easy to learn but mastery takes a while.

This game reminds me a bit of Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime in how you have to coordinate with your friends to control a machine.
