My PC is above the recommended requirements and it runs at 15-30fps on average at lowest settings. I held off playing for a while waiting for performance improvements and multiplayer but it appears the publisher has given up on finishing the game.

In terms of the game: once you get past the nicely detailed karts and tracks, you're left with a near entirely text based UI in a singleplayer game with no progression.

Played on a 10 year old machine (i7-7700k, gtx1070).

I am still early but I know this is a game I will be investing many hours in over the years. The art direction is unparalleled - everything feels alive or worn down in such a vivid way. It’s hard to explain but the attention to detail feels akin to reading a good book.

Combat is fast and responsive. I am more of a hack and slash style player so I can’t speak to parries and shields, but swinging a weapon has a great heft to it. The sound design in this game is very crunchy and does a great deal to immerse you in every action.

The character designs and writing is fantastic so far. The politics of the world seem to be fairly black and white (church = bad) but there is lots of nuance in the characters and dialogue to draw you in.

Some mechanics still feel a bit frustrating - most notably inventory management. There are 4 inventory screens and each one can be expanded individually - why? Just let me upgrade my entire inventory or allow for larger item stacks. Loot is completely randomized with many items having barely noticeable stat differences but I imagine this will change once I have more areas to explore.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the game and more performance and ease-of-life improvements. This is truly something spectacular!

I had fun at first but the amount of playtime required to take part in the season with no idea when it will end, and the grind to maintain weapons and armour - this game is anti-fun. 170 hours got me 1/3 of the way through the last season which ended pretty much out of nowhere.

Everything from item weights to durability is designed to make you grind. Want screws? Don't bother with logic - there are only a handful of items that provide them and they're needed for almost everything.

Fallout 1st does not alleviate this, all it does is make scrap and certain ammo types "free" to store. You're still going to be limited to a very small amount of options for your own armour and weapons as you still won't have room to store them at $19 a month. Fusion Cores may be ammo but do not count for the free storage.

If you have any kind of addictive tendencies, can't afford Fallout 1st, or already have Fallout 4 - steer clear.

tl,dr: Purchasing this full priced game basically gives you access to the Dirt Rally 2.0 store, which you will be reminded of constantly as you are continuously told you cannot access most of the events in the games menus.

I have been a long time fan of the Dirt series starting with its predecessor, Colin Mcrae Rally on PS1. I was so happy when Codemasters announced Dirt Rally being a return to the series roots in 2015 so naturally I was looking forward to getting my hands on the sequel.

I should point out, I purchased my copy through Humble Choice, and did not pay full price. That being said, I almost immediately regretted my decision. While Dirt Rally was a fresh and exciting take on a series, Dirt Rally 2.0 feels like a step backwards. Starting out you will have access to two full length rally courses, and some rallycross tracks, which I did not try. My copy came with some additional vehicles, but from what I can see, these are not included in the full game.

What incentive would I have to learn the two available rally courses and hone my skills knowing I will need to spend actual money to continue my progress in the game?

Gameplay feels far more akin to Dirt 2 or 3, with strange floaty physics. You can get into a good flow and the canter and camber of some of the turns feels great, but there is almost no differentiating between road conditions or surfaces compared to the previous game. I can see from the other reviews that this isn't just me, which is a relief.

Regarding graphics, dust trails are still tiny and look like particle effects and all the environmental textures have a strange blurry quality to them. I tried different graphics settings to no avail. I mention this primarily because of the 100 GB install size. What is taking up all that space if I still need to buy access to the rest of the game?

I honestly cannot recommend this game on any level. I understand that games as service is the standard these days, but what exactly are we paying for? I technically spent about $7 CAD on my copy and I still feel completely ripped off that I didn't choose an indie game that would have actually respected my time and money. The positive reviews for this game seem entirely tied to the VR experience or from people for which money is no object. Have some self respect and spend your money elsewhere.
