This is a re-review, since my original review was fairly bad.

This is a walking simulator version of Amnesia. No inventory, no Sanity mechanics, very few objects are interactable, it's hard to get killed at all as there are almost no chases and all of them end in seconds. Gameplay wise it's a step back in every way compared to The Dark Descent. The only reason you would want to play A Machine for Pigs, is the story.
The game's story is overall one of the most elegant, complex, and thought-provoking horror stories, and worth exploring further, though the finer details could've been explained better. It takes a while to get going and you might think it's just a retread of Dark Descent's plot. Around halfway through it picks up and ends with one of the most magnificent monologues in video game history while outright phenomenal music is playing in the background. The soundtrack, in general, is exceptional. The ending left such an impression on me that I still remembered it years after my first playthrough.

A Machine for Pigs is worth buying and playing just for the ending.
