It's a good game with an amazing foundation that can be expanded upon practically infinitely (living up to the name of Jump *Space*) but the main reason I'm voting it down is the inventory system.

You're telling me that I can bring the multi tool (which you cannot remove), a med stim just in case, and my main weapon...and have ONLY ONE SLOT for loot???

This is ridiculous and unfun. No one wants to make 3-4 trips to the ship and back in a looting run. And yes, I was playing with my friends who could also carry things, but it still felt like ♥♥♥♥.

My suggestion below:

1. The multitool should not count as an item slot. Let it just be our sidearm and give us that slot open.

2. Main weapon (rifle, SMG, shotgun, etc.) should not take an item slot UNLESS you are carrying more than one of them.

3. This means you can have your multitool and a primary weapon and still have four slots open for gadgets, consumables, and loot

The constrained inventory is a CRITICAL issue and one that is worthy of thumbing the game down completely by itself due to the degree of severity.

Aside from that, it is genuinely a good game and I'm excited to see it grow and expand. I'm excited to see more ships, missions, upgrades, perhaps weapon attachments etc. this game has a bright future, but SOMETHING must be done about the inventory system.

I started a blind Let's Play series on this game as I was excited for it as a big fan of SWAT-style shooters. I have been incredibly let down by the control scheme.

The main and most criticial issue in my opinion is that the various gadgets you can carry are not on their own dedicated keybinds and require opening a menu. You MUST open a menu to select gadgets - you can't even cycle through them with a single keybind (which is almost as bad, but STILL better than this menu requirement.)

There are also bugs regarding inputs; sometimes when you switch to a gadget, you become unable to pull out your weapons until you switch to another gadget and *then* press your weapon key.

Lighting and shaders are nice.

The default weapon's recoil feels good.

The game presents a cool new idea with the throwable camera gadget.

Overall, the game feels so unfriendly to use for me, that I am refunding for now, but I certainly will keep eyes on it in the foreseeable future and am looking forward to my pain points being addressed.

It's a good game but not $60 good. There are a LOT of characters, and the game also does something quite interesting (that it doesn't get praised for enough) with its Side Stories feature, which allows you to play points in the story from an alternate perspective, ensuring you aren't just playing the anime beat-by-beat.

Combat takes getting used to and adaptation because there's little to no soft-lock for your attacks. There is a hard lock-on function, but it also doesn't guide your attacks to the target, so be prepared to manually space and manually aim your moves. This puts the game's skill floor relatively high compared to others.

It's absolutely worth playing, but not at the base price. You won't find AAA quality here.

They deserve recognition for the simple fact that they did away with the token/subscription system due to player demand. They didn't even increase the base price of the game to compensate for the removal of the token system. Devs that are this forthcoming are extremely rare nowadays (not to mention the game itself is fun and cute.)

It has a few bugs but nothing out of the ordinary for an Early Access title. The devs are receptive to feedback, and are hellbent on creating a really fun game using bleeding-edge AI technology. They're creative and it shows in their designs and gameplay mechanics.

It crashed in the first actual mission (after tutorial) and requires third party account for online play.

**IMPORTANT UPDATE:** I don't know why or how, but this **completely** fixed the issue for me. In Nvidia control panel, I limited fps to 59 and turned v-sync on, and it didn't crash a single time in the last 3 hours.

Because I am personally not bothered by the Epic Games sign-in, and my crash issues seem to be resolved (for now at least,) I am changing this review to Positive. EDF has always been a fun series with wacky physics and goofy atmosphere, and the changes in EDF6 to the inventory system allow you to bring even more fun gadgets to the battle.

Additionally, Epic Games isn't ACTUALLY required. It's just a backend to enable multiplayer crossplay. It just needs you to put in your birthday (you can fake it if you want) and connect it to your Steam account and you're good to go. There is NO NEED to open up your email for anything at all. It's not even an actual Epic Games account.

Rare Sony W.

EDIT: Review changed to negative due to cringe nerfs in the Escalation of Freedom patch. The patch before this one was a phenomenal improvement in regards to balance after many steps backwards. I'm not sure why they did another 180 and heavily nerfed the Breaker Incendiary as well as the Flamethrower.

Nerfs don't need to be this severe.

EDIT 2: Arrowhead finally made the right choice. The September buff patch has totally revitalized the game in ways that don't trivialize the challenge. Enemies are more fun to face with a wider variety of loadouts that are viable. It's a massive step forward for Helldivers 2.

EDIT 3 10/16: In the face of the current design of the Rupture Strain, Dragon Roaches, and War Striders, in addition to Arrowhead's awful treatment of Eravin, along with critically detrimental technical issues, the game is once again in an inexcusable state and I'm changing my review to negative.

It's a very cute and surprisingly in-depth anime tactics game. It makes you think, and there are a variety of ways to complete every mission. I like that the game has several male lead characters because oftentimes in games like this you would only see female characters. The story is engaging and interesting in the way that it slowly unfolds and the characters' interactions with each other are believable and dynamic. Animations are extremely cute and smoothly animated, contrasting with the overall darker nature of the game and its subject matters.

You can craft items to take along with you to your next mission, and figuring out which ones you might need is fun. The simpler items like grenades are very simple to make and can be very heavily upgraded without costing any more resources to craft.

You don't unlock new characters too quickly, at least at the beginning but I see this as a good thing because it helps you learn and get accustomed to the skills of each respective character so that you are better equipped to deal with the challenges the game presents you later on.

The soundtrack is good, it never gets annoying or in my way personally, and it always fits the mood of the scene whether it be battle or story. The characters are all very cute and it is extremely fun to watch their smooth, fluid animations as they perform various actions during battle, or even when they are just vibing in the preparation stage before each mission. I've been playing on the Standard difficulty, and the missions (at least in chapter 1) have already been an enjoyable mix of challenge and tutorials, where they teach you various important mechanics while also challenging what you've learned so far at the same time. The first chapter of the game is definitely one of the better learning phases of most games I've played, and the first chapter ends on a very interesting twist that is likely to keep anyone hooked to find out what happens next.

If you read up until now, well done. If you want a community for Codename Bakery that is free of any cringe drama related to GFL2, here's a link to the unoffiical Steam fan group: https://steamproxy.net/groups/CodenameBakery

Really moody atmosphere. Main character is compelling, intelligent, and capable but I wish his face looked more like it looks on the cover of the game. His in-game face doesn't look bad though.

Really good graphics but poor optimization and facial/eye animations seem slightly broken/bugged.

Acting is high quality for the most part. The Unworld does really well in terms of sprucing up the gameplay. Music is extremely good.

Deluxe Edition outfit looks really nice. The details on the sword are exquisite.

In the game's current state, it NEEDS an AI mod. Thankfully they're easy to make yourself, and even easier to download. I use Jug's Gameplay Review and it plays very similarly to Swat 4.

The tutorial is buggy but aside form that, I have no real negative criticism of the game. Voice acting is more than good enough, graphics are gorgeous (optimization pass needed though, especially in the headquarters) and the game plays like an evolved, modern Swat 4.

If you liked Swat 4 then I think you'll like RoN too, but please I cannot stress this enough, GET an AI mod at least until the devs fix it themselves. If you don't know about Swat 4, you'll still love Ready or Not if you enjoy tactical and strategic approaches to gunplay. Teammate AI is fine.

Buggy tutorial and broken vanilla AI aside, Ready or Not is a modern gem and the Swat 5 that we always deserved to have, but with its own unique spin.

If you approach this game as a highly upgraded version of Skyrim (which is still putting it VERY lightly) then your expectations will be exceeded. If you approach this game as if it's some godly combination of No Man's Sky and Red Dead 2, you'll be extremely disappointed.

It's a Bethesda game, and it comes with all of what you'd expect if you've played their games in the past, and more. It's their greatest masterpiece to date, and it would be a shame if you missed out on it just because you were expecting it to be something it wasn't designed and developed to be. It's a mixture of Prey, Dishonored, and Deus Ex, with some open world sprinkled in.
