Guild Wars 2's (GW2) vanilla base game with hundreds of hours of content is completely free to play (no-subscription fee), thus there is absolutely no reason to not try the game out if you are on the fence. Unlike other MMORPGs where progression is vertical, GW2 follows a horizontal development. This means that you can invest a few tens of hours in a character, get best in-slot gear and future DLCs will not render that equipement obsolete. This comes with the added benefit that you can quickly gear up different characters for different roles (DPS, Healer, Utility e.t.c.), without having to dedicate a ludicrous amount of hours per-character everytime the gear creeps up like in other MMOs.

I have not even touched on the undebatably vastly superior combat and mount system compared to other titles in the genre that functions eloquently in both PvP and PvE content. Furthermore, there are countless story missions to dive into and maps to explore/complete for when you just want to pass time without thinking much.

Endgame content is present (Raids/Strikes, Fractals, Cosmetic-Grinding/Dungeons, World Completion, Legendaries, Achievement-Hunting), however, in my opinion GW2 falls flat in the graphical department. Not only has the graphics aged poorly, it also runs beggarly regardless of your system. Furthermore, the environments can feel rather empty and completely not to-scale; buildings, entities and objects are wrongly sized everywhere you go.

These minor downsidse are a small price to pay for the otherwise outstanding game available to us.
